If the actual X-ray machine itself is running Windows XP... I suddenly feel less good about my next dentist appointment.

I'm running a CopperheadOS that I built myself with microG added, and I've found it implements enough of the Google services (including push and SafetyNet) that everything I care about works well, including banking apps. YMMV.

I started using a self-hosted searx[1] instance recently, and I highly recommend it if you'd prefer to not have to care about this nonsense. It's the first time I've found an alternative to google.com that is actually usable

Can anyone explain to me why the group that had high exposure but an intervention that reduced their exposure to about 5 on the graph, has much lower violent crime levels than the group that had an exposure of around 5 and no intervention?

JSON is UTF-8 by definition, so at best you'd be using a format that looked similar.

What do you mean by "support"? Do they really get to tell you that you can't use a device even though it supports the standard their network uses? (I'm clueless of how things work with these carriers.)

I switched from Chrome to Firefox nightly for most browsing some time ago, and it really seems that Firefox is moving at a furious pace at the moment. Its performance and battery usage is light years ahead of a year ago, and in terms of web

The code that sends the price to the printer was written with currency symbols in mind, and selects the correct code page before sending the code for the £ symbol. The code that sends the "product name" was not, and doesn't c

It won't even take ICANN, since I seriously doubt they are accredited themselves. They are probably dealing with one or more resellers and may well be breaching the terms of their agreements with those resellers.

I have basically the reverse problem. I happened to set my Spotify account up when I was in Germany, and all my recommendations are forever for Germany and in German, no matter where I am, with no option to change it.

I don't understand the time zone issue. Even the macOS included Calendar app with time zone support switched on makes this a complete non-issue, and Google Calendar handled it pretty well when I used to use it too. I travel basically c

This happened to me after a stopover in Dubai; for months all my prices were in UAE Dirhams, and only reinstalling the app fixed it. It's been this way for quite a long time as far as I can tell; I guess having a monopoly on a good map

No. If gpg does its job you could even host the passwords in a public github repository. Several pass users do this; I used to, but my server has better availability than github over the last few years so I switched after being frustrated a

Why on earth do people who read HN keep their passwords in a cloud service? pass/gopass, stored in git over ssh on a server I control, and I have access to all my passwords everywhere while only relying on the security of ssh and gpg..
