Formal methods != safety-critical. I think it'd be a hard sell to use ML in safety-critical systems due to the non-deterministic runtime of the GC and potential for memory exhaustion. As a counter-example, C doesn't prevent formal methods -

I agree, the GP is thinking of this news story: http://www.billboard.com/news/pearl-jam-r-e-m-trent-reznor-c... I don't think a lawsuit was ever filed. At the time there was speculations as to whether it was considered a public perform

They still exist in the US, they are working "embedded" now. Embedded has made a huge jump in the last 15 years from custom OSes or no-OS to now COTS RTOSes/Linux. Even the embedded guys lament the newer guys can't debug an ISR anymore...

Perhaps he's referring to the batteries included feel of other platforms. Every other platform (i.e. .NET/java/ruby/python) have gobs of built-in functionality in the standard library - everything from parsing, to different I/O models (NI

It's anonymous assuming the mint-chip value message and the mint-chip request message are not intercepted or stored. This is a PKI-based system, so they can verify if you signed a transaction. So if you use it online - you can't guarantee

There are a couple use cases: 1) applications where the OS is a commodity - abstraction layer to IO (disk, network). MS solution is their PAAS (which is expensive). 2) existing libraries/services that aren't available on Win32 where it

Think you have that flipped. The median is the 50th percentile. The mean is the average.

The loan guarantee is actually against government induced project delays not default. The goal is to make the government a stakeholder. The last two built at that same site had > 10x cost overruns for that reason.

That's a 100k gross salary. I don't live in CA, but I'd guess about 30-40% overall tax rate including state tax. That leaves the earner 60k-70k overall to live on. That rent is >= 50% of their income.

Not the GP, but the general principal is to use Redis as a task queueing system. The front-end puts a task into a redis queue. One or more C++ programs are waiting on the queue(s) and execute the given task (like a large DB insert). If r
