I think Java was almost killed by not having native look and feel in Swing. There is probably still a lot more desktop applications written with native Windows look and feel than with Qt or Java. It is still a problem with mobile apps that

As a sidenote, Michael Stonebreaker himself is nowdays building VoltDb which is a memory-db that he thinks is much more evolved than relational systems. I havn't used it but it looks interesting. I did try OrigoDb which is an open sour

But if the storage is a storage library the developers wouldn't be reinventing it every time. And if a new technolgy came along it might be easier to start using it than to say that all applications in an organization must use the same

With some small changes to SQL you can get something similar that probably gets closer to what he describes. Seems to be called NewSql in a lot of cases. One thing some people like with sql is that the query engine translates the language t

You can look at all the open source databases that are out there. You can also look at things like FoundationDb and their SQL layer. It shows how you can build a relational api on top of a NoSql db with transactions. I think that will be op

Check out examples of using TypeScript with Angular (or DartAngular). Gives you a lot of benefits today. Personally I think Angular is great but React is even better and I will probably use the latter for my next project if I can choose.

If you watch the keynote video about AtScript you'll see that they describe AtScript as a superset of TypeScript 2. They add features they think are missing but are trying to keep the syntax wherever possible (actually they hope that

There seems to be things related to Angular that would not work without the annotations. That means the comments you suggest would have to be parsed, otherwise your Angular code would break.

You also get a step-wise path to rewrite the applications. Going to Scala would probably be a complete re-write which is risky and time consuming. I don't think Scala usage will grow much more now that Java 8 is released. The benefits

C# has improved a lot faster than Java the last 5-6 years. I would say it is has been a much better language until recently when Java 8 was released. Now they are more equal with Java probably having some advantages since it was the last to

I suppose the value is that you don't have to rewrite your application logic multiple times. That takes time even if you're fluent in all languages. It is also a duplicatio which increases the risk of later bugs due to not doing a

I think a good refactring tool is one of the best ways to improve productivity for a developer. When you have a strongly statically typed language it should be possible to create really good refactoring tools. They don't have to exist

But one of the nice things with Angular is that for small things you can get away with almost no code at all, small controllers that isn't really depending on each other for example. It is when you start on a larger system you have to

I think promises are hard to test regardless of framework. As a side note most Angular examples seems to do more functional testing than unit testing since they don't mock many other services.

It looks interesting but I wonder how it works if you have to filter or search for records when you have many records. I did not see any query language only iterating through all records and filtering in memory.
