I've heard the same argument about making interest-free loans to the US government so you can get a refund later. I don't buy it there, either.

In a similar vein, some of the best apps are made by non-US developers, but neither of my [American] credit cards works buying apps in non-USD. (Not sure if Apple has the same limitation, or whether they "solve" that problem by only showing

Cassandra has a lot more installations pushing hard on it in 0.6 than it did in 0.5, many of whom have worked with me and other committers to resolve their issues, so it's not just paint-by-numbers handwaving on my part. Here are some of th

Note that flowdock was on the obsolete Cassandra 0.5; the little they described of their problems suggested that upgrading to the 0.6 series would solve the worst of them.

The history is relevant there, though: OSCON started as a perl conference and expanded to other areas later. (FYI, a "track" is a group of related talks, not a single presentation.)

Cowen isn't the kind of partisan that Krugman portrays in his op eds. (For that matter, I doubt Krugman really is, either.) Some quickly googled examples of Cowen agreeing with or praising Krugman: http://www.marginalrevolution.com/margin

Exactly: it's depressing, but working software really can be created by throwing dozens or hundreds of junior-level developers at it. I'm just not interested in working on any problem domain where that's the best approach.
