"Continuous development" on the mainframe? Hah! My first job out of university in 1996 was doing COBOL programming on mainframes for the federal government of Canada, and my first project was to rewrite a program originally written in 1972

Given that you're the guy behind web.go, is Slowcop is written using Go and web.go? If so, how are you finding writing production web code in Go? Can you share any info/tips on the hosting setup behind Slowcopy? (FWIW I'm an avid Go progr

If you want to look at a real-world compiler, check out the Go suite of "gc" compilers, which are mostly written by Ken Thompson. The source for the Go ARM compiler is at http://golang.org/src/cmd/5g/ , or you you can browse the entire Go

It's worth keeping in mind that if you care about Unicode, Lua doesn't really support it. See http://lua-users.org/wiki/LuaUnicode for the details.

Somewhat tangential, but Jaron Lanier has some interesting comments/criticisms of MIDI in his book "You Are Not a Gadget". I'd quote him, but it would go against the spirit of the book. ;) Well worth reading in full.

Never mind C, it's nice to see the Go ARM compiler coming along nicely ( http://code.google.com/p/go/source/detail?r=3e8c5af7bb1a810f... ). Pretty cool to see that Ken Thompson is still checking in code.

The Mac Pro uses ECC RAM ( http://www.apple.com/macpro/specs.html ), the Mac Mini doesn't and can't since it has a Core 2 chip and Intel only supports ECC w/ its Xeon chips.

This is a great point. The difference in bankruptcy law between the US and e.g. France or Germany creates an incentive for US entrepreneurs to take more risk since if things don't work out (and they usually don't) they can dust themselves
