6% seems to be the norm down here in Central Florida. Paid by the seller, or baked into the selling price, and split between the listing and buying agents. 10% in rural America doesn't sound too strange to me.

They recently changed the lower limit of the down payment to 15% in Sweden. But yes, you'll generally get a better interest rate if you put more of your own money into the purchase. As a Swede in the middle of buying a house in the U.S

"In mobile, a good first step is to open up the app stores and allow the browsers to have the same access to the operating system as native mobile apps." From a security perspective this sounds like an absolute nightmare.

Me and my 4 year younger sister share our birthday. Growing up people would often gasp and ask themselves "what are the odds??", to which I'd usually reply "1/365?". My father and step-sister also share their b

That seems to have become the norm. To me that's just people misunderstanding how to use a gradual scale. I recently got a phone call from my apartment management after I left a bunch of 3s and 4s on their annual review, they seemed di

I totally agree. 4.6 as a cutoff is insane. I regularly rate things 3 if it's good, 4 if great (on Google Maps). What Uber should have is: Rate your ride: 5 - great 4 - bad 3 - really bad 2 - awful 1 - shouldn't be allowed to driv

I'm using GNUCash. I used to manually go through receipts and check against bank transaction history. That wasn't exactly sustainable so I wrote a python script to take the CSV that most banks will export and spit it back out in a

If I'm able to see the price for multiple stations at the same time and I'm able to adjust my driving to get to any particular one, I'll go for the cheapest one. Typically I tend to optimize for easiest/safest to get to

I picked up a Casio W800-H (similar to F-91W) about a year ago and I'm really loving it. It's holding up pretty well despite regular abuse at the gym and while working on my cars. While I'm hoping to get a couple of years out

I rip my CDs, store them on my NAS and then burn them back on a CD for playing in my car. The original stays in a closet in case my NAS ever dies and the burnt copy in my car lives as long as it lives, given the hot Florida sun.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ While not the official language, you can oftentimes assume people will understand English in Sweden. My observation in Florida is you find more people who don't speak English here than in Sweden.

I don't fly very often, but being in the midst of booking flights I'm very thankful for websites having filters by airplane type. I'll be paying the additional 10-20% to not set foot on a Boeing this time.

Yeah, dealing with countries under direct economic sanction might not be the best of ideas. While I strongly dislike Google/Alphabet for many reasons, this just seems like they're being responsible.

Wow, this is truly eye-opening. Budgeting $7200/yr for entertainment, $8400/yr for a luxury car, $7800/yr for vacation and $25000/yr for food. Whomever made that budget certainly made the decision to live paycheck-to-pay
