Use PGP to encrypt your emails[1]. I've never used it with any server I didn't control (like Gmail), but I'm sure it's possible to set up. [1] http://lifehacker.com/180878/how-to-encrypt-your-email

To be fair, I trust TrueCrypt because it's "libre" and "open", but I've never looked at the source code myself. I trust that other people more knowledgable than me have taken a look at it, but if there is indeed a backdoor in it, then it w

The user neelk states that one of the bad things about the language is "Null. In 2011." Can someone clarify for me why having null in a language is bad (other than how dereferencing/calling-a-method on null in most languages results in yo

I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but I always had a hard time remembering where the "hinge" was on the slashes. Let me explain: Assume that the slash begins like a pipe |. If the slash has a hinge at the bottom (like most people intuitiv

"Politics" plays a role in pretty much every social interaction. Even though I'm just an introverted programmer, I find myself in dozens of situations every month where following the basic observations he makes have helped me succeed.

Most people use sizeof when they are copying between static buffers on the stack. Strlen would be just as bad of an idea in this example because they're using the src buffer as the limit on the copy rather than the dst buffer which is st

The only thing more dangerous than strcpy is strlcpy or strncpy. I can't tell you how many times I've seen: strncpy(dst, src, sizeof(src)); And the developer thinks that the code is safer because he's using the "safer" function.
