I've only read for 5 minutes so far but this is a really interesting read.

I'm trying to get them all on Signal. It's a tough battle, but I've got several over.

I don't transpile my NodeJS code. I don't feel that makes me asinine.

So you reckon if a parent was triggered about the murder of their own child they'd be consoled by the fact that it's a bad process that's being killed? And you reckon a slave who is triggered by the word "slave" wou

Last I checked, you can still get to the JSON version.

As I was familiarising myself with Go recently I was surprised to see the word "panic" so often. Panic disorder is a real and debilitating disease. I wonder when that terminology will change. But at least it's not as bad as o

Does brave sync bookmarks and passwords between desktop and mobile yet? I don't get why this is such a low priority for new browser vendors.

Sure, if you ignore everything else in tracker1's original comment, which can't be said for Ruby/Rails.

Yeah look, I do think you're wrong. I respect your courage in just coming out and saying that. You've given yourself a very tough set of constraints (has to compile to binaries, has to have a GC, can't be in preview, can&#

I addressed that in my other comment. It's not just Elasticsearch. That was one example out of at least 20 I could give you. The fact that there isn't even a client for the world's most popular search database is indicative

I am already very familiar with 2 interpreted languages, but not very familiar with any compiled languages. I'm doing the exact opposite of restricting myself. And it's not just Elasticsearch. That's just one example. I would

IMO there are plenty of reasons for me not to use Java. I could write an essay on it, but the only one that really matters is that for the 4 years that I coded in Java, I didn't enjoy it. And to suggest Go doesn't offer anything d

If you need relatively high performance but can tolerate it not being 100% in exchange for nice things like GC, use Go. Where does Java fit in?

That's a good thing, but it means I might use Nim in 3-5 years, not right now. As a single dude without a team I need to spend time on getting things done, not building custom clients to databases etc.

I guess I mean "new" as in still not stable (pre-1.0 and still sees breaking changes). The fact it's been around so long and still hasn't matured is not reassuring at all. I have checked out OCaml but it's not mains

That's really sad, and I don't doubt at all that these things happen, but they are so uncommon, even for the mentally ill, it just isn't something I'm worried about. I've actually been pretty impressed at how restra

I'm looking for a new language to write server code in. I have been using Node for years but I want something that compiles to machine code and is statically typed. I've been looking at Go and I like that it is simple, has opinion

Was it private? I often see things in there and have no idea how they got there, but it seems they get added when you open a URL to someone else's public document, even if you don't let it fully load.

Can confirm. I've never felt in danger around an Australian police officer, despite the fact they're packing. I reckon even if I did something stupid around them I'd probably get pepper sprayed rather than shot.

You want more magic, basically. I guess that's a personal choice. I've never personally felt inconvenienced by having this at the bottom of my .vue files: <style src='./style.css'></style> <

This was the only thing I missed when I moved over from React 2 years ago. Vue's error messages are relatively useless, and they haven't ever improved much.

I've been doing that for years in one of my projects. Just reference the CSS and JS files in the .vue file (e.g. <script src='./file.js'></script>) instead of inlining them in their respective tags. How

I didn't know Fastmail was Australian. I really hope this bill gets thrown out so good companies like this don't lose business just because the government of the country they are in is untrustworthy with private data.
