What about those who dance like Elaine Benes? I'm just not made for dancing. I suck at it, and even if I "loosen up" I'm still awful. It's best for all if I just sit in the corner with my phone reading hackernews. T

I'm going to say something that sounds shitty, because I don't want it come off like I'm bragging, I promise I'm not. Just trying to bring context to how financial circumstances might affect your outlook in this situatio

I understand what you're saying. It might come down to use-case. The particular application I manage really suffers from low GHz and not having all data in memory. Ive run the benchmarks on EC2, certain reports that finish in ~5 second

100% agree. AWS is very cost efficient for other services (S3,SES,SQS, etc) but virtual machines are not a good deal. You get less RAM & CPU, with the virtualization overhead, and pay a lot more money. Especially for Postgres if you run

I've been running FreeBSD for all my production stuff for 20+ years. Works great, stable, consistent, reliable. Give it a try.

I'd like to have per database WALs, instead of the WAL being for everything. I have no idea what this entails or if it's even possible, I only know it would make my life easier.

Most of the things I have bought, I've gotten used to, and brought me only short term happiness. There are some exceptions: - Financial stability for my family. - Some musical instruments/equipment have given me lots of long term

Guitars in general are a great answer. I have a 72 Gibson acoustic I bought used. Sounds and plays amazing. I see no reason why it wouldn't be passed on to my kids and grandkids eventually.

I don't think this is a fair comparison, on one side it's a whole pack of cigarettes per day and on the other one glass of wine. How about we compare two bottles of wine every day with a whole pack of cigarettes. I think that'

thing is, they wouldn't have hosted the WC had they been honest about what the beer policy was going to be. Brazil also doesn't sell beer in stadiums and they had to temporarily change rules while the WC was in town

he made some excellent points, but I also think he exaggerated others. Bill Gates' relationship with Epstein is very troubling, but if youve followed that story I don't think it's fair to call them "best buds"

I'm not a fan of this player, I don't even play chess. Still it sounds a bit harsh to me that a child that cheated online can never in his adult life participate in chess tournaments. If he had cheated as an adult I would have a d

He's also saying on the video linked by OP, that he donates 100% of all revenue back into these troubled communities. I get a feeling a lot of the people criticizing him haven't watched the channel. I've seen about 50 videos,

I love this YouTube channel, I find the stories very interesting. I haven't watched them all, but the ones I've watched 80% were fully clothed. I highly recommend this YT channel.

I've been working as a software dev for 20+ years, the only time I actually truly worked 60+ hours a week was when I was attempting to get my own startup off the ground. Other than that, it's usually been 10-15 of actual work work.

I agree that its not a great deal for shareholders, but I can see how we got here. It works similar in sports, if there is a 33 year old free agent superstar, every team is willing to give them a 2 year 80million dollar deal (40 per year).
