It will never cease to amaze me how out of touch some technical people are... including the author of this markdown rant.

My summary of this rant: Ivory Tower bullshit Markdown is phenomenal. It gives end users simple and easy to remember ways to perform the most common formatting operations but leaves the text in a state that it was be parsed by humans witho

Can confirm, that blog appears to be completely broken. No javascript errors in the console and turning off ad blocking in Brave doesn't help. /shrug

I love this post. This perfectly lays out why I have operated my own blog for over 20 years now. I liking having my own space where I can say what I want. There is also real value in me going back and reading what I said a year, five years

Yeah so just wanted to chime in here. I 100% agree. I have worked at both extremes. My current gig is basically the first one. Nobody has the big picture. Nobody wants to discuss the big picture. They are only interested in checking of

It's a shame that more here don't realize that. Being able to communicate is paramount.

Years ago this would've been interesting to me. But it took too long. Given that the Fairphone 4 has been out everywhere else for years now and there wasn't even a peep of it coming to the US, I decided to jump ship for an iPhon

Wow. Redhat / IBM is no longer going to publicly make the source code to RHEL releases available. Alma and Rocky Linux literally just died. Screw you IBM... and the creepy Linux kids coattails that ya rode in on.

A proper CSS implementation of this would respect your browser preferences, so everybody could have it work as they'd like ;) I apologize for the implication, it was not on purpose.

Okay I'm a glutton for punishment so I added support to news.css and created a patch for it. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36344178

Thank you all for your enthusiastic responses! I was sorry to learn that this feature request hasn't seen much traction. However @ksec gave me an idea by linking me to an earlier thread on this very same topic in which somebody sugges

That's actually very helpful, thank you for that. I'm going to work on implementing the CSS changes when I get bored. If that's the only thing standing between a bunch of hackers and dark mode on the hacker news website, I&#

As a Linux loving .NET developer, this is very sad to see. Goddamit MS.

Based on the fact GPT-3 seems capable of producing flowery language that is confusing and ultimately nonsensical, it seems to me that GPT-3 has a future writing speeches for politicians ;)

I have to say, I strongly disagree with this. As a professional software developer I've watched legions of clients fall into the trap of customizing tools to adapt to their specific sacred workflow. It always ends up being expensive

I'm utterly shocked at how many people assume that "The Cloud" is both run by people infinitely more intelligent and more competent than they are and that everything there is backed up. What a crock of shit.

Whats got me bent out of shape is that your bosses fired the entire threat management team. That's why I'm spending hours switching to UnGoogled Chromium today. So long Firefox and thanks for all the fish!

Wow. Didn't realize this story was getting so much play over here. It has essentially failed to have an impact on reddit as nobody there apparently wants to be told that they are likely part of a Ponzi scheme. Regarding the 502s: I w

My apologies. My posts have been largely ignored on reddit and I don't frequent ycombinator so I didn't realize that it was getting such play over here. Thus when some fellow nerd emailed me a few hours ago asking if I'd en
