I notice you comment on self-driving cars a lot and seem knowledgeable on the subject. Is this just something you follow closely or do you have some background in this area? I ask solely out of curiosity.

While I agree there is a huge danger with semi-autonomous systems as drivers become disengaged, Volvo has already publicly announced they will take full legal responsibility for any crashes when their cars are in autonomous mode.

That $5.5 million was a gift to Carnegie Mellon, I believe mostly for public relations. It does not include salaries, bonuses, or operating costs for Uber's Advanced Technology Center. The real cost was/is much higher than that.

As someone who used to work at a research lab funded by GM, I can tell you they are incompetent. I was so put off by the experience that I will make sure to never buy a car made by GM.
