Bladerunner: Revelations used a similar technique to bake down large CGI worlds with expensive lighting into something that ran on a Pixel 1 at VR specs. Its honestly really very hard to work with this stuff because you ultimately need to b

If it works, it shouldn't be called AI.

Seriously. "AI search"? Oh you mean "search"?

Well the whole point is that memory (cache in this case) is not cheap at all. We have very little and the point is to do as little loading of what you don't care about as possible to keep the cache full of only exactly what is needed

No it's not always better and I didn't mean to imply it was. I was simply saying that the article argues against its title. In both cases you want to think about locality of the next read and structure the data accordingly.

Presumably they're referring to resizing the arrays.

It doesn't quite make sense to keep object identity at the language level. Inherently the data in the arrays cannot be the same memory of the data in the objects fields. To get the speed up, you can't just abstract it as an acces

Even more so, it shows that SoA data structure means you can add fields to your 1M monsters with little impact.

If you have hot loops with millions of iterations at a time, structure your code accordingly. Its not anti-OO to choose the right data structure for the job.

If that was sufficient wouldn't it just be easier to map to the Powershell commands directly?

So are they incentivized to allow an obvious grift and let the index have middling returns so they can skim the difference?

It's crazy to me that we're seriously discussing these things replacing all workers when they still cannot do proper addition. I can see a world where these tools stay popular but I don't think they'll be able to be used

I think you're conflating has crunch and has non-exempt employees with everyone is getting crunch OT. It is simply not the case.

Diablo 3 and 4 would be massive examples? Hell Divers. Monster Hunter, perhaps? Online head to head games like Street fighter? Maybe RTS games like Dawn of War? Pay Day. Seems like all of these would be hit and will move to freemium or s

You'll just get subscription games with a free year subscription code in the box. If anything I bet it will accelerate the death of free multiplayer.

Hourly pay rate with OT. That'll clear up the crunch or at least compensate the workers.

Supply of folks who want to work on a game is higher so wages suffer. Pay is not influenced by talent or merit alone. That and they used to be able to waive a mythical shipping bonus but if it was ever true, I don't think its really s

Feels like one of those knobs they throw in to make performance feel like a user skill issue instead of a product issue. Why doesn't it know how much effort to use? How do I know how much effort to use? It's a mystery.

I can't tell from the blog, is this actually verified or is it theory and then numbers showing plausibility? I could certainly come up with alternative theories about memory compression and prefetching if we were talking about texture
