Agree with this. It should be considered to be a 'secured' loan, backed by the government. The rate would be determined by the market based on the above. I believe this is how it used to work, way back when. Not sure why it was ch

That story is fantastic, thank you. Reminds me of one of my all-time favorite Asimov stories, Paté de Fois Gras, about the Goose that Lays the Golden Eggs, but with a counter-intelligence twist.

Agree. Looks like counter-intelligence or a honeypot to me. It reads like a Larry Niven novel, like technology bought from the outsiders.

Yes, and obviously I understand the legal difference between these two models as well. Section 230 is still an experiment, one that was put in place primarily to protect intermediaries, like ISPs. It allows for a free and open Internet, and

I'm still not understanding why we are questioning their right to do this? Back in the old days, you paid for an advertisement in the newspaper. Your right to post that ad was completely controlled by that paper. If you posted an ad wi

So many misconceptions about education, some good ideas though. 1. adult-centric point of view is one of the driving forces behind the failure of modern education. Wrong. Educators spend many years studying pedagogy, and what is and is not

Introspection. Some humans seem to do it, others do not, at least that is my observation. So introspection seems to be the post-processing of inputs to build a coherent conceptual model of the universe. Building inferences between unrelat

I'm interested to know what parts are costly? I found it relatively easy to implement processes for 'right to be forgotten' and 'emergency breach notification' as well as the default opt-out of personal data and ma

I see lots of doubt here. I just got over COVID-19, I had it for around 26 days with very mild symptoms after the first 2 days where my temp never went above 101.5. However I still have 'post-COVID' symptoms. I'm in my 40s an

As someone who had Covid-19 this month and is now technically through it, I can attest that I am not old, and this thing does not go away. Heart palpitations, random bouts of exhaustion, inexplicable random sweating, inability to run for a

I help to run a software company, and many if not most of my developers are in Belarus. They are just like you, but cannot leave because they have families there. They would like a Democracy as much as anybody in the West.

What about a ride-sharing protocol, like IRC? Seems like this is what is needed. We don't need a company here to help us hail a ride, we just need a standard way to hail a ride. We would then need to use our judgment as always. Caveat

I should not respond to this red meat but I am human after all. From what I see, we have a largely peaceful protest with a few bad actors. "Congress shall make no law ... the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition t

So. US $150 per ton, so $150B per gigaton. We must ultimately remove 1,000 gigatons of CO2, but we need to start with 10/year. Using this method will cost the world $1.5 trillion per year. That seems completely within our resources.

Your only leverage is a) Your partner's good faith and good relationship as your employer, and b) Your willingness to leave your situation. Both are worth something, and leaving will have negative impacts on your employer. These situa
