When you get up from the table, and you still see the environment you work in, you never leave. But when you take off the VR headset, you can't see the environment you work in.

It does add separation from work and not-work. Take the headset off and you go from work to home without any commute.

Maybe it's just me, but I refuse to use third party actions in our build and deployment steps. It seems like such an obvious and avoidable attack surface to me, and one where an attached can have root on our production instances and at

First, thank you. I have been looking for a way to do this and came to the comments to see if there were workarounds to use composite actions without putting them in a separate repo. Which brings me the second comment... this is proof the d

I have been using Inter in our SaaS product for a couple years. Two things I really like about Inter are the tabular numbers option, and the disambiguation option. I combine those two options in a "data" class to style text in da

A mall across the street pretty much universally increases the value of existing retail in the area due to increased car traffic. But the mall across the street shutting down or converting to non-retail use would fit.

I read the article. I understand that. But what takes precedence, the first line or the extension.

But is it reasonable to treat a .txt as anything other than plain text?

Heroku. We used to Colo servers or rent dedicated servers. You had to setup linux/apache/database, etc. Manage logging and backups. And then to scale up you had to do it all over again. First you split the dB onto its own server,

Does Zapier only get revenue from paid subscriptions? Or do companies pay for promotion / integration? I suspect there is a big business around semi-private APIs and gluing "enterprise" partnership deals together.

Graphql.pro is a paid library for ruby as well.

Yeah, I didn't write that clearly. We have this great .tool-versions file defining the version of ruby, node, yarn, etc. It's great. Then we setup github actions to run linting/tests/etc, and we have to define those same

Does anyone know a good way for asdf to inform which versions are installed in container? I feel like I keep having to hack together ways to do the same thing when building containers for apps build with asdf. (Github actions, dockerfile, h

For me, HN is the right amount of community as a bootstrapper/founder/etc. It is easy to spend too much time talking about it and less time just doing it.

Different world in that the average person at HN now reads this similar to how the average person in general would have read it in 2019. This article was no less tone-deaf in 2019.

And throughout those years, HN has remained the most constructive discussion of any slice of the internet I visit.

As a former philosophy major, I concur 100%. There are many great recommendations of philosophy works to read, but logic itself is how philosophy works. I would even go as far as to say logic is the class that has had the single largest imp

This is right. I am running Pop OS, but will make the jump to Arch when I have time. I don't want to wait for the distro maintainers to release new kernels/language versions/etc. And once you start changing those things, the
