I've long since abandonned JSF in favor of Wicket to build what you call in-house apps: the latter being much more designer-and-developer-friendly imho. But I wouldn't use Wicket (nor JSF for that matter) for a public facing site, because

Nope, nothing of the sort. The government has absolute control over the internet infrastructure here, and they manipulated the page's markup on the fly (or maybe the served an already modified and cached copy) when requested.

Nope, at the time of these incidents, I could request GMail's login page over HTTP, though the login form action pointed to a HTTPS url. This was fixed a day or two later though. Same with Yahoo.

A small trick: Because Dropbox can only watch and sync one directory, and because I don't want to move all my stuff in that directory, I create symbolic links to the stuff I want sync'ed in the Dropbox directory.
