I always did that with integration tests. Put some data in the db. Use the repository aka your sql and validate the results. Most of the times there is a layer around your sql (a repository, a bash script or whatever) that you can use for i

Thanks. Hm, the team is working together for maybe 2 years like this. Those sessions go the whole day with a few breaks (lunch, coffee, bathroom). No hierarchy and we are all involved during the sessions but if you have a bad day it’s ok to

Yes of course: those sessions happen online using teams or slack. The start of the day in the team is the standup in the morning where we quickly socialise and make a plan for the day and discuss important topics like triggered monitors, se

I’ll try to answer your questions: - the team size varied but in general we are quite small with around four developers - all within one time zone - all on senior level - not an answer but just for context: we didn’t had any prod incident w

We don’t do code reviews anymore. We have a good quality gate (e2e tests) and pair programming. All development happens on main and gets directly deployed to prod when the tests succeed … I hope I never have to use git flow or alike again i

Can’t confirm - my parents still use one of my first work laptops which is over 12 years old and is powered by Linux. It’s enough for all their casual use cases. Edit: throwing away laptops after 5 years won’t help us to live more in a more

Apple stops giving you software updates after seven years which makes such a device unusable for normal use (browsing, banking, coding etc). Also the ssd will fail sooner or later.

For the example provided I would encapsulate that logic in the object itself returning a confirmed copy as a return. And as someone else pointed out I also much prefer explicit code where you easily can understand what is going on…

I really would love to know how s3 is implemented. Is it maybe just using a backed up file system and some api?

Maybe we could first try distinguish both. So when I think about it, software development is mostly about the application of mathematics and transformation of information whereas mathematics are about describing the world in a formal manne

Please don’t get me wrong but I wonder what is the use case for this. First of all this tries to solve a problem that has already been solved by the mobile device OS layer within IOS and Android and furthermore is only working for Android.

As for many others here in the comment section gnome went downhill for me after the migration to version 3. gnome v2 was such an easy to use, clean and fast experience and after that it degraded not only from the usability perspective but a

Idk as you loose the index and several operators your database might get useless and this solution would not scale well. From my experience you better have dedicated views for different stakeholders and your problem is solved without those

I guess you will just end up writing your own framework in the end. There is a reason web framework exist - they all satisfy different needs in the domain of web development. Like routing, content update, state handling, event handling and

And for just that give up all the freedom docker runtimes give us? I don’t want to be forced to use go or rust - maybe I’d like to use bash, node or even the jvm depending on the problem I need to solve. And I don’t understand why docker is

True but then please try to back up your hard claims with some references. Fowler himself made the restrictions of the microservice pattern very clear in several posts… So don’t blame him for stupid architectural design decisions!

Maybe you and them just did not understand that it’s an pattern that, as all pattern, makes only sense for certain applications. Maybe you could also present some references that back up your claims? It’s always easy to judge on people that
