Because ethics are to me something private. Whenever you use it as an argument for why somebody_else should do something, you're no longer being ethical, you're just being a sanctimonious dick-head. For someone who is not a native English

True, in order to provide consistent benefit to users you'd need some sort of mechanism to determine whether it'd be faster to "grab from the swarm" or "grab from the repo". Perhaps even setting up each already-existing mirror as its own se

Though unfortunately upddate files are still distributed through centralized repositories. I wonder whether there'd be major security concerns if a torrent layer was stuck over the main centralized backbone? It could probably reduce bandwid

Yep. I usually find that most reasonably popular Linux distros will max out my down connection over torrents. Pretty nice way of telling whether my ISP is throttling or lying to me about my bandwidth.

Oh, yes, you can. But I think its probably beyond the technical abilities of many authors. If there was a cheap, e-book-only publisher around that could help with all of the traditional publisher duties (editing, typesetting, advertising, e

I'd be more excited about a really good self-publishing platform for non-interactive e-books. A lot of the cost of e-books comes from publishers needing to support various paper-related overhead like binding, printing, etc. If it was possib

The end result of all this behind-the-scenes software? Fast, accurate search results that help you find what you want. Has Bezos ever actually used Amazon's search functionality? I know it isn't the easiest problem in the world to solve,

I really think that incorporating the +1 button into their actual rankings would cause Google more grief than it is worth. It would be like a built-in spamming vector for any less-than-legitimate site out there.

People are used to 24fps for movies now, however. In my opinion, higher framerates just end up making everything look like a sitcom.
