I’ve been learning Rust via the book and a great article I found on linked lists [1]. Coming from C++ the lifetimes/borrows concepts make sense at a high level but the practical details seem to get pretty crazy. If anyone here knows Ru

Agreed, it would be very interesting to see some of the care taken for resource management that is lost now because every machine has “enough” RAM and cycles…

The paper talks only about the Frontier supercomputer which is #2 on Top500. But I think it was an analysis rather than them actually running it.

They get the same result when they run it a second time and it matches the classical result; this is their key achievement (in addition to the speed).

Yeah I think the C# team was definitely influenced by Go with their addition of Spans.. Interesting approach regarding using strings as containers for raw bytes, but when you create one over a []byte I believe it makes a copy almost always

Great list! Reminds me to check out more of the new stuff in 1.25. The one thing I wish Go had more than anything is read-only slices (like C#). The one thing I wish more other languages had that Go has is structural typing (anything with F

Thanks! This is my favorite someone made: https://ginprov.com/a-dating-site-for-gnomes/ Interpolation happens in two steps. First, there's a prompt for an outline (below). Then, a prompt with the same construction

The LLM does seem to default to a certain style. I made an “improvisational web server” that plans and generates a site based on a path, but after hosting it and looking at a few hundred generated sites, they all kind of look the same. Whic

Everyone has imperfect information; this isn't a cargo cult situation where it's massively asymmetric, this is more like when you see everyone else running, it's generally a good idea to start running too. But when that heuri

With AWS you are paying for the ancillary things; pretty good network, reliable portal, reliable management APIs, nearly perfectly commoditized products (one VM like any other, though in practice I observe minor exceptions to this all the t

It’s clear a lot of good fundamental innovation is still happening in the EV space (as opposed to IMO negative innovation in digital features in ICE cars). This is why I leased my electric car; my family’s pattern is to keep a car forever (

When the skill is used locally in Claude Code does it still run in a virtual machine? Like some sort of isolation container with the target directory mounted?

This is a temporary situation; people need to learn what AI is and giving it for free is the best way; then once the value is proven to them, they'll complain but pay if it's significant enough (which it certainly is for me, I use

I love LINQ (the object method syntax not the keyword syntax) and used it extensively in a production application in ~2015-2017. It is easier in many cases to write and read than manual loops. In performance-critical code at the time it had

It's sort of like a cleaner approach to a C# SelectMany where you return either an empty array or a single-item array? C++ keeps getting more stuff but it's clear a lot of thought goes into these additions. I think a "living&

A bubble is a poor metaphor for AI because there is obvious real value in it; so when it pops it won't pop all the way, but investment is maybe getting too far ahead too quickly and there will be pull-backs. I don't know a better
