we tested etherpad, which hackpad is built on (and google docs is) and it's just not super stable if you have 50+ folks on it.

It was actually an Apple story, so it's really much, much more a TM story than a HN story. also, the last time I had a story on both HN was like 3x TM, so I think that scale is huge. Compete.com is probably off in terms of under reporting--

Quick note: According to reports Draw Something from OMGPOP was generating $250,000 in net revenue per day. That's a lot of money.

If you're paying your VCs legal fees you're making a mistake. You don't need to do that any more. :-) You can also cap it (i.e. $10k of your legal fees). Fight for this point by saying "you want as much money in the company as possible"). $

Thanks for the fact check. When folks raise their angel rounds they have 18 months or runway, so I could see the 6 turning in 20. Which might be 1/3rd. Raising an A-Round is HARD because VCs only do 1.5 deals a year each individually (10 bo

Could have made that point more clearly I guess. Zynga, Airbnb, Dropbox and OMGPop all have massive revenue growth. Instagram could have easily had massive revenue, they just--wisely it seems--decided to make filters free. Hipstamatic charg

I do say you're not going to be able to charge 10% for a flatpanel TV, but for a Groupon or movie ticket? Well folks already get 10% commissions on those items (i.e. Fandgo or Groupon affiliates). But if not 10% let's just say 2%... it's st

Walked into a meeting with VCs last week with my standard outfit: very expensive shoes, cheap $40 jeans, crisp but simple Brooks Brothers shirt and a decent (but not outrageous) designer blazer. This is my dressed down... no tie, no suit. I

We're going to do that next. Right now we have "courses" which are inapp purchases, but not a portion of the "main course." That's what we will try next: first two chapters free, next five for $1.99.

I wonder if you can ride the free push into solid reviews, feedback and a better product that folks will pay .99 for? Clearly "usage" plays some sort of role in rank, so i think it's good to get a large base of users and then be paid. or so
