Something always bothers me when I see two é's on résumé. Yes, it's probably the correct way of saying it, but neither the English nor the French (not even the French!) use the word "résumé." There's a certain level of douchebaggery when I

Just curious: shouldn't Netflix be worried? This entitles Apple, Inc. to not only Rhapsody's income, but also to 30% of the income from Netflix's streaming only plan. Presumably, this policy would also affect Netflix's hybrid distribution m

We have the CAS server return a hash in extraAttributes called "MemberOf" that returns every group the user is a member of. I do feel that the next version of CAS should formally address this as part of the main spec. But our MemberOf is pa

It's a shame that CAS for multitenant apps never really took off. We have an integrated CAS and OpenID server to handle single-sign on for all our apps, and losing OpenID will mean an additional username/password for our people to remember

It's an interesting concept because passwords could be infinitely more secure if everything adopted a two-factor authentication system with something physical that you carried around like an RSA SecurID. Unfortunately, even that system risk

The DoD doesn't exactly promote a hacker culture in the civilian roles; however, depending on branch of service (e.g most likely not marines) and role (officers and above), there is latitude for creativity. Of course, anyone who has worked

I'm extremely happy with my 13" MacBook Air and its 7 hour battery life. Chances are, I'll be tired of looking at my laptop before I'll encounter a situation where I run out of juice, and I have my iPad to tether, even though not technical

I use voting as a way to mark a story to be read later, so I'm guilty of upvoting before reading. I don't think there should be a mechanism to require a click-through, but I think a way to save a story to a "to be read" later queue would be

I would like to see Trader Joe's stylesheet/writing manual. You can find a lot of similarities in Trader Joe's quarterly newsletter to Groupon's tounge in cheek writing. I have always thought that Trader Joe's pioneered this sort of market

The culture in China doesn't entirely foster it. I agree China is entirely capable of producing excellent software. But that doesn't change the culture. I've breathed it when I lived in China for several months. You'll notice that college s

People wonder if these test scores in China are beyond the norm. But the bitter truth is that these scores are indicative of their Confucian training, not any independent thinking that a "standardized" test could evaluate. The Chinese educa

Thanks for the compliments! I'm still a bit wary of using NoSQL, and we store document revisions (e.g, if I modified invoice 1021, the lastest version would be updated in SQL, and the last version would be pushed into NoSQL) into SQL just i

University ranking is a strange beast. On one hand, it may merely indicate the amount of endowment a university receives from its alumni per capita. On the other, it may truly rank a school by the merits of its research. But more often than
