My wife and I both have Moto G's and they are amazing value. I couldn't imagine spending the kind of money some people do on smartphones when great options like the Moto G are around.

This is such a huge indication of the horribly sad state of interviewing and hiring programmers. The current process results in hiring people that are awesome at interview quiz questions, but can't sit down and do the actual day-to-day

PHP is a solid workhorse. Quick to prototype, and once a PHP app is up and running, it just works. Wikipedia, Facebook, MailChimp, WordPress, tons more -- they all load fast and are hardly ever down. You can argue all day about the fine det

Well that's insightful. At least I realize the problem I have is perhaps not the problem that I thought I had. It may just be a strong bias against PHP. But even if we did choose to rewrite at some point, how do you choose? Java is "enterpr

You make a fair point. I have been programming for a long time now (~26 years) and I do tend to roll my eyes every time some fancy "new" language/framework/library comes out that's just a re-re-re-implementation of something 20, 30, or 40 y

It's PHP -- but solid object-oriented PHP with a popular framework (Symfony). Hadn't seen the Joel Test before -- thanks for pointing it out. 1. Do you use source control? Yes (Git) 2. Can you make a build in one step? Yes (one command) 3.

The best physical reaction time is about 160ms [1] A direct neural connection could be more like 5-15ms [2] An order of magnitude difference in response time has huge ramifications for all sorts of applications. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org

Yeah, he's definitely not "retired" if he's managing even one rental property. It's not full time work, but it can take up quite a bit of time in spurts -- especially if you do maintenance and repair work yourself.
