Using FiberScheduler allows you to use async IO without the additional complexity of callbacks.

> ActiveRecord database requests have been non-blocking for many years. That's blocking IO with multi-threading. The executing thread stops and waits.

Working in a small civil engineering firm is almost exactly the same as working in software. It's all about people.

Which cost do you mean? Needing to keep the value alive for deoptimization if Kernel#binding is actually called or?

It’s already happened. GE-Honeywell was rejected. The answer depends on how important the EU or China market is to that business.

OO heavy code and functional heavy code can also benefit greatly from JIT compilation. The PHP8 JIT just doesn't have these optimizations yet.

This is true of urban areas but not expressways. Motorway limits vary from 120 (Spain) to 140 (Poland) with Germany having sections of unlimited autobahn.

Absolutely. My ex used to drive on the autobahn using an A3 to tow almost 750kg of horse float and horse. The trailer has its own brakes. As long as you don’t drive car and trailer straight off a curb it’s not bending anything.

Here in Australia and New Zealand we regularly tow boats with Aussie sedans like a Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ford_Falcon_XR8_Ute_...

Due to rate parity clauses member rates on OTAs like Expedia basically match the franchise reward rates. They’re often the same rate plans in the software hotels use for managing their rates. I checked Hilton SF downtown for next week and

If you need high concurrency then Elixir is awesome but you can get the same performance from Ruby + lighter framework like Roda or Sinatra.

The technical proficiency needed to make powercleans an effective exercise for strength and power development is ridiculous compared deadlifts, which a good coach can teach you to perform safely in a few hours.

I’ve never met an elite lifter who would describe cleans as being completely leg and upper body dominant. That’s a very odd statement.

Unless you want to make weightlifting a part time hobby, don’t do cleans.

It’s a fuck load easier to hurt a wrist or elbow doing bad cleans than to hurt your back deadlifting with average technique.

It’s hard to compete if you’re injured. At an elite level (like IPF world champion) injury prevention and recovering from training are what matters. Many lifters have 25 year careers from junior to starting masters. Strongman is a bit diffe

The locals dict is lazily created from the locals in the stack frame. No dict there unless you use it. The article I linked to before has a really good explanation of this. len() only causes one dictionary lookup and then it's cached.

Without running again using GraalVM EE which TruffleRuby needs for things like Partial Escape Analysis these benchmarks aren’t very useful. I’ve made the same mistake myself before when benchmarking TR. Crystal has wildly different semantic

Lua doesn’t have assignment as an expression. Lua 5.1 has float as the only numeric type. Lua varargs are easier to implement. Each VM op for Python or Ruby ends up being bigger and having more branches. For Ruby this is quite painful on th

Chris already proved we can do exactly that for Ruby with TruffleRuby. I don’t think there’s any reason GraalPython couldn’t do the same given more work?
