The most important algorithm in the world, matrix multiplication, just does a fused multiply add on the data. Memory bandwidth is a real bottleneck.

How long has that even been a regulation and in which countries does it apply? Software engineers are trained to view these kinds of things as bugs. Legal isn't trained to monitor bug trackers.

Are you saying io_uring is basically IOCP for Linux? If that's true, then I'm not happy about it being in the kernel. IOCP only goes 2x faster in my experience (vs. threads and blocking i/o) and that isn't worth it for t

It's not even a very good padlock. Using Cloudflare makes you powerless to stop level 4 DDOS attacks, because Cloudflare isn't very good at preventing hackers from abusing their service as a means of amplifying them. If you'

I don't think so. OpenBSD 7.3 works great. Their latest release broke APE in two ways: https://github.com/jart/cosmopolitan/issues/1263 I'm not sure if something like this is an accident. We might n

A lot of quants just upcast to floats. Some of them work on integer multiplication using pmaddubsw. But oof, it looks like the i4004 doesn't even have that.

I know bro. Last time I was walking down fifth avenue, I saw Richard Sackler getting a dirty water dog and I was so trembling with fear of that gangster that I dove into a manhole cover.

Wonderful. I can't see how a society that stops believing in individual responsibility is going to keep believing in individual autonomy too. We've been seeing the same cultural shift in technology. SB1047 in California seeks to h

Yes but the Sacklers would have no income if they're languishing in jail stamping license plates. That means less money to pay the people who brought cases against them. Think about it. Liabilities don't just take their wealth, bu

My project is literally to make a compiler toolchain. Do you expect me to not use it? The nice thing is that you can build my project on any computer that has modern GNU Make. That and sh are the only things that needs to be installed.

My Makefile is portable. It builds binaries that run on six OSes and two architectures. So I used my Makefile to build GNU Make and a GCC toolchain. Now I can run my Makefile on any of those OSes / architectures too, and it'll pro

Don't be discouraged by all the people in this thread saying you're using make wrong. One of the things that makes make a great tool is how deceptively simple it is. Yes not using .PHONY can potentially get you in trouble. But for
