I prefer reading novels in ebook format, but most other forms I prefer having the physical dead-tree version. One thing I think holds some ebook formats back is the insistence on replicating the physical experience. I do not need page turn

Instead of "voting with dollars" because of companies' lobby groups, why not put your energy into joining EFF or other patent-reform groups?

Isn't this similar to Windows wanting to rebuild their entire userland on top of .NET?

I think the OP is trying to blur the lines of "use the best tool for the job." C/C++ are powerful languages but they usually require a build infrastructure of some kind. (make, etc.) If you need access to a native library tha

Have to admit, played with them at the Microsoft store today and even the ARM one feels way better than last years models. Glad to see Microsoft taking this seriously and improving on them.

It's all about value-add really regardless of whether someone assumes it "comes from Apple" or not. If it's obvious what the value-add for your application is in the app store, then pay-up-front works. One problem is, 5

I was lucky enough to have my own office at Apple even during all of the pairing up when the company doubled, tripled, etc. the size of the engineering team. My most productive moments were when I could close the door and turn my music up o

100% agree. Also a perk of living in a city (such as San Francisco) is I can walk EVERYWHERE, including work and I do. Like the OP, walking to and from work and hitting the gym most days has vastly improved my quality of life and it doesn&#

Prerogative or not, it's still douchey of Google to outright block Microsoft. The original Apple version of YouTube only shows videos that do not want advertising (granted a smaller and smaller # of videos).

I think it ultimately came down to this... "It was also not pleased that Microsoft had built its own system to interface with Google’s ads so that they could be delivered to the application. It might break, and so forth." It'

Yahoo is trying to acquire so many companies, I fear they are only going to run into culture problems as they begin to assimilate them into the parent company over time. Just look at AOL as the model company that did this in the late 90s an

There is a disparity between rich and poor in this country, sure, but come on. Most of the homeless in SF actually want to be on the streets. So many of them are young and it used to make me sad but I have just learned to accept it. I alw

LinkedIn is full of embarrassments. I have no idea why it continually begs me to scrape my gmail inbox for contacts? There is no way my inbox represents business associations that I want shared with anyone let alone LinkedIn.

This is quite radical in my mind and very greedy on Adobe's part. How is abandoning the pay once per version of software a benefit to anyone other than Adobe? I get weary of software that I have to bind to an active account indefinitely. Th
