I think I understand what this is trying to say, but I believe the problem lies more in each person's narrow scope of control, not some blind drive towards efficiency or ignorance of total throughput.

The biggest issue with lobste.rs is that they hide some of the tag filtering features behind the invite-only membership. I can understand restricting the commenting and submission, but I have no desire to chase after an invitation just to g

This actually touches on Alan Kay's statements about programming with "what" instead of "how". It has made me seriously consider logic programming for the applications I write.

This is a good point. There are two definitions of "production ready": 1) Works for my application. 2) Won't get my head chopped off. The second is what most developers working inside a hierarchy really want. I am always torn

Having now gone through several cycles, I partially agree with your view on the tech side. But, I just do not believe things evolve at a slower pace in other fields. Especially the fields that have used computers to enhance their efforts. H

Do the engineering professions (civil, chemical, etc.) have the same issues? There are a lot of parallels between the type of work the programmers and engineers do. So, what is the difference?

That depends on what survives the transfer (i.e. memories, experiences, and/or trained personal responses). I think we can actually use existing sci-fi to explore the possibilities, ranging from nothing to everything surviving. Even Po

And how, with money polluting politics so badly, do you fight this type of situation? A public scandal. And how do you get a scandal? Wait for the inevitable government overreach and someone to leak it, the bigger the better. There are to m
