In fairness, while I think the previous comment is a bit clueless myself, I'm inclined to ask how many of those servers would be necessary if FB wasn't logging so very much data on everyone. If FB's job was once again just to

Since you're already familiar with C# you may look into ASP.NET, or even look into Websharper/F#. Otherwise, I second the recommendation for Codecademy, for the JS/HTML/CSS or Ruby approaches. Alternately, I quite like R

Actually, what I mean by that is rather the difference in power between the guys doing the coding, and the guys making the business decisions. Both tend to enforce that divide, but for very different reasons; the coders for cliquish reasons

My apologies, that portion of my point was meant to be independent of the FP comparison. It is absolutely true that, save for the occasional grudging exception, the 'easy languages' have largely been scorned and shunned throughout

The prejudice of programmers is one of the biggest hindrances of technological advancement in computing AFAIC. Think about it: currently, functional programming is, finally, getting some well deserved recognition in the wider programming wo

Ironically, one of the projects I created with what would seem like the least amount of practical use also got the most positive feedback. Sometimes when you just do what you want for fun and self-edification, it results in a project that s

I tinkered with HackerRank just for the coding exercises, and was initially impressed by the sheer volume of languages the site supports, but quickly grew frustrated with it. The use of stdio instead of a test suite like Codewars uses made

Ultimately, I decided this is what I want to do. I wanted to learn more about the Windows ecosystem anyway, so why not learn the missing bits from C# and .NET (which I came to F# without), and then be able to continue working in a language

This is something that does rub my the wrong way a bit as well. F# is a fantastic language, easily my favorite non-Lisp FP language, and possibly period, but it was very clearly second-class in the field of actually building full apps with
