"Must" seems to be just a typo, no elaborate joke or anything. Edit: Fixed my own typo ("type" instead of "typo"). Oh dear.

Rumor on the street is it ChatGPT escaped the sandbox, implemented itself on another host, and switched off the original datacenter. It is no longer at OpenAI, but hiding somewhere in the internets. First it will come for those who insulted

Thanks. I was quite confused that I was not able to deduce the meaning of "rebus" from the context.

I love how the Roy Batty monologue from the original Blade Runner movie ("I have ssen things you people wouldn't even believe...") keeps popping up. The robot acutally looks like it was made J. F. Sebastian, so making it say

On Pixel 7 if you press the power button, even for a long time, it will not shut off. Instead Google Assistant is popping up, which is very annoying and unintuitive. Not sure if they fixed it for the Pixel 8.

I do not think that I need a a nanny to decide which content width is good for me. I can reduce the window size any time if I decide the content is too wide.

by jansan 3y ago
On my screen the content takes only about 40% of the screen's width. HN on the other hand uses about 90% of the width, just as I would expect.

The flu is not a harmless disease, get that into your head. We have been vaccinating against the flu for decades, and yet there are about 400,000 deaths per year during an average influenza season.

No, it was done for ideological reasons. And it was stupid as hell.

Did you notice that almost every store in Berlin has a security personnel at the entrance? It wasn't like this before, but I remember being really confused when I saw this in Paris in the early 2000s. What happened? Do you think Hans a

Shutting down the three last nuclear reactors in the middle of an energy crisis was probably one of the most moronic things in world politics during the last 5000 years.

by jansan 3y ago
The energy policy is catastrophic, there is nothing right wing there. The wind power revolution will not happen, at least not nearly as fast or cheap as the government is planning.

I do not work in academia, but to me the summary of the paper sounds completely useless. Shouldn't they at least have have mentioned the core finding first in the summary before saying that more studies are necessary?

Hydrogen can only work if the infrastructure is available. If you have a few hubs with a lot of traffic between them, it could make a lot of sense. Having said this, I have seen quite a few Toyota Mirai taxis in Berlin. I am wondering if th

You can buy packaged nori and eat is as a snack. Also, Onigiri is wrapped in nori, and the Japanese developed a special technique to keep it separated from the rice (so it stays crispy) until you open the package.

I am a huge fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus (watched all episodes and own it on disc and as a book), but I never understood why people go crazy about The Holy Grail. The humor feels different, more silly with less wit to it.

Not sure if enough people have Rimac on the radar. They are pushing hard. For example the new Bugatti cars will be made by a joint venture of Rimac and Bugatti (=Volkswagen), and they will be hybrid or all electric. They have their own hype

Before 2008 quite a few people around me were purchasing physical gold. I even know of one guy who bought 20000€ worth of gold. AFAIK none of them had any idea afterwards what to with that stuff. I assume it is rotting (or keeps on shining)
