But many OS projects are desperate to get help from non-coders. For example: * documentation written by non-native speakers (and lazy/busy devs in general) needs a lot of editing and corrections. * complete artwork (logos, inverse log

KDE in last fedora is fine except KDE specific bugs. Battery life is good, but KDE uses xwin.

I miss the speed and features. 15 years ago email or IRC applications (The Bat, mIRC) started in milliseconds, and had tons of features. Today webapps take forever to start and are severely limited.

In future many people will cover their faces on public. With cameras, face recognition and personalized ads on every corner; that is the only adblock.

It simply can not be done! Apple is worth $ 750,000,000,000 and it spend last 16 years trying to build file synchronization tool.

Most corporations I interviewed with have this policy, including Microsoft and some large banks. Otherwise it would be impossible to attract OS developers. Also the agreement[1] is not completely rosy, it has some strings attached. For exa

I think author would have a hearth attack from Scala. It does not even have a conditional loops :-)

Scotland is fairly small country, starting their own currency does not make much sense. Monte Negro is using euro, and is not even part of EU yet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montenegro_and_the_euro

Ok, lets put it in a different way. In Ireland I had cheap prepaid card and 40GB/month was not problem (this was on 3G). I could not do that in US, I would have to sign for 1 year and pay over $1000 in total.

by jankotek 10y ago
Quite opposite. US is far behind and expensive. UK and Ireland had unlimited data plans 5 years ago for 20 euro/month. Today even Turkey or Vietnam have better data deals than US.

I do not want to go into this discussion, but I doubt school would get any subsidies for a coal plant. By other industries I meant everything (manufacturing, IT, agriculture...), not just electricity.

If you use Gradle with Scala, you are using it as 'better Java' (point from article. I worked with Scala collections for 9 years, last 5 years I implement collections for living ;-) Scala collections are behind in implementation.

I usually hava Scala/Java debate before new project (or refactoring) is started. And here is Kotlin relevant. Kotlin is bundled with Intellij Idea. And Kotlin has smaller adoption barrier.
449.
by jankotek 10y ago
It is also about tooling and libraries. I find Scala ecosystem to be behind Java ecosystem couple of years (SBT versus Maven/Ant/Gradle, collection libraries...). And Kotlin makes this debate irrelevant anyway.
