This creates a big problem though... the hospitals are incentivized to prescribe antibiotics when they are not needed (which they can charge for, the "doctor visit fee" is not remotely enough to cover the hospitals costs) leading

Well... You do have the choice to buy a phone with an OS from a company who's business is to sell phones, rather than ads, don't you? Seems a bit absurd to claim a lack of real choice in this instance.

In this instance, nothing afaict. I looked at a few of them which are generic "here's how you make a 3D scene with a shark" type tutorials for three.js (a popular browser-based 3D engine based on webgl). The cynic in me think

Apple are investing resources far beyond the direct economic benefit into accessibility, out of moral concern (with a small PR benefit). This is hard to replicate in the open source world where the model is "everyone contributes what t

The discipline of thinking before typing is one that requires experience. I suspect that many young developers are stuck with not knowing what to type, and try to find solutions to their apparent lack of productivity (a guilt-free way of p

True enough... my mind is in the embedded space where say a good enough representation in say 16-bit is desirable.

This is just terrible. The fact that the compiler complains if an enum is added without updating the switch statement is a feature. The enum and switch version is clear and explicit. To defeat it, in the name of... what, code obfuscation? b

Internet access in SZ is also restricted, but you are right that you can buy an unrestricted SIM on the border, but that is actually a HK SIM (or dual network sim) so your data connections are terminated in HK and hence not filtered.

This actually already happened, to the extent that it ever made a difference in the PC ecosystem. The manufacturers of cheap phones in China use standardised modules: motherboard PCB, display with standardised connector, battery, "open

I think you make a good point in this instance, so I upvoted. The follow-on discussion establishes the policy of big-cos pretty well and I don't think Alacritty much benefits from the AGPL since actual integration into other software b

Kind of a perfect example of the ambiguity in over-shortened names ;) I also read it as propertyCount (which in my style shouldn't even be a variable...)

The homeless part sounds like a pretty good idea. You hear a lot about startup employees looking the other way with regard to social problems in the Bay Area, so partial solutions like this could be interesting? Of course $10 per day doesn&

You are both right, in a way. The main limitation on power delivery through a conductor is current (resistive losses/heat per Ohms law). To deliver more power through a smaller conductor requires raising the voltage, much as USB-C does

If I say that a piece of software has a fault, am I implying a moral failing? If twitter have raised $2.8billion but show no signs of giving a return on that investment, then there is a fault somewhere, either in the valuation, the executi

Not functional code though. The aim of functional code is to be side-effect free, and affecting reality really gets in the way of that. /snark, but articles like this really do fall into that trap...
