Careful what you say about copyright. While this might be true (up to some degree) in the USA & Japan, it’s definitely not true in many other countries (e.g. Germany, France, Russia & the UK). In the US it might also be possible to

There are GUI clients for IRC that don’t need any “command line options” (some don’t even support them). And there are (and certainly were) plenty of people on IRC who aren’t very technical. Seriously, around 20 years ago it was often used

You mean IRCv3? It’s not all ready/implemented yet, but some of it is already in daily use. https://ircv3.net/ For example a server can tell the client that it only accepts UTF-8: https://ircv3.net/spec

I really doubt that’s true. It would mean that a foundation that owns any goods (buildings, rolling stock, etc.) would not be able to sell them, ever, except to other non-profits. Are there any non-profit car wrecking companies in Spain?

The well-known laundry symbols are trademarked apparently, and while there is a proposal to include them into Unicode, this might in fact be blocking it… These are trademarked for other reasons than a company logo though, and I don't r

If they would want to remove "zombie channels" after 6 months or so, that would make sense, but doing this while they still have a function (informing people about the move) is simply against the stated purpose of the Freenode IRC

Didn’t make them obsolete though… if you look at almost any construction site or gardener, “hand drawn carts” (aka wheelbarrows) are still used a lot.

They could always block you from doing business with your customers (or suppliers) in the EU. Obviously it would be much easier to enforce against companies that do have some presence in the EU.

I don't know any jurisdictions that don't recognize the concept of “public domain”, but there are some that define “public domain” differently than it is defined in the US. In the US “public domain” means “without copyright”, whil

That's not important; you disable that “autopilot feature” and sound an alarm in the cockpit explaining what the exact error is. Should be enough for the human pilots to react properly.
