It is. HIPAA should destroy these jerks. The problem is that they are stating that no health data was actually lost... just the part of the health data that identifies you and can be used to ruin your credit. Since that part of the data sho

Their email stated that they would contact those who have been breached. It appears that everyone was breached. I think that means that they will try and hide the care package (1 year of free credit monitoring) in snail mail so they don

A social security number (SSN) is the same idea. The difference is that not every citizen has one. The problem with this number is that, similar to Sweden, it can be used as an identity number and as a password. This is a terrible thing to

They also use a different company to do payments for them. That is likely why they said what they said.

I wonder why they needed to store SSNs online. They use SSNs to run a credit check and identity a person. Why then is it not stored encrypted and over an air gap? They can use email and phone numbers to recover passwords. This is absolutely

You've got good reason to be sour grapes. Hang in there man. I was on the border of moving there for a short time ~1 year for a large project. The project didn't take off quite as expected so now I'm trying to get things done

The money you make there must go pretty far though. What do you do for work? Are you Vietnamese or a foreigner? Sorry I'm just curious. I've been out there a few times and was considering bootstrapping a startup out there due to t

Wow. That was really motivating. Can you give some advice on how to search for remote work?

Nice comment. I really believe strongly that the fast iterations that python allows for is why companies are so successful. The argument that language x does not scale is a bit naive to the fact that they got to the point where they have en

When I travelled in Vietnam, they have drive-thru gas stations that are built for motor scooters. Cars seem awkward there. It would fit perfectly in a place like that. The general population is very poor. Motor scooters are parked outside.

I can do iOS dev. Would you like to submit a joint resume? I think we can tackle this together.

Ok, so if you can accomplish this task in two days, it may be cutting on the edge of worth it. It looks to me like it would take more than a week. That looks more like a slave wage than fair pay for remote work.

I like the idea, but it looks like there are tons of tasks offering $60 for some simple feature. Someone asked for an Angular.js dashboard for $1600. After taxes, that would be less than $1000. That's not an appropriate payment for a w

Have you looked at the linked material? I went through all of it myself and I found that although there are a lot of slides with code in them, you are given a good balance between Go code and theory. You can just brush through the slides th

I just finished the Coursera course by Andrew Ng. It was great. The only hand waving done with math was when calculus was necessary. You can take some extra time to do that work yourself if you like, but you will not be missing the underpi

You can't get a new SSN as far as I know. What you can do is get a SSN pin, which will authenticate you in the case that your SSN has been leaked. The damage that is done to your credit may not be undone so easily unless you take up a

I was making a parallel between using a word within a community when that word has a different meaning from outside the community. The exclusion that comes from using the word is the only point I was trying to make. I was hoping that the hi

It's not ironic at all. Nor is it hypocritical. Going to a news site called Hacker news is not the same thing as defending a word that has been misconstrued and then absorbed by the general public to mean something entirely different.

The term 'Hacker' is a lot like the n-word. It's okay when we call each other hacker, but when someone outside our community does it, we get offended. It's time to let the word go. The meaning changes depending on who yo

Those examples have nothing to do with my argument. Both of your examples neglect the crux of my statement. Paying for patents is not the same as funding innovation. Funding innovation may involve paying for patents. What I stated is that i

Could you explain to me what an ops team is? Could you also explain to me what running a single platform instead of custom deployment means? A lot of solutions solve that problem. I don't understand how your product does that.
