I’m not at my computer to find a link, but I think dell and hp had similar, but less severe, scandals. Windows-based laptops are a wasteland, I’m not sure who to buy my next machine from (I run Ubuntu)

In the meantime, the top “recommended by amazon” result for windows 10 is counterfeit software sold for half price (at least in Canada). The whole first page of reviews is people complaining about fakes or licenses not working

What’s the easiest way to turn your desktop to a Remote Desktop for ssh (eg, to run ml models)? The dynamic ip is the only weird part. Which service or solution do people use?

I was considering building a system similar to scroll, but now that it exists and is in use... that’s nice :) I hope things go well for them!

My wife had a hp once that had the thermal paste dry up. To fix it would have required taking apart everything from the keyboard to the monitor clips, top and bottom. We just bought a new laptop.

Anecdotally, most of my irl friends don’t or else barely use Facebook at this point. Lots of profiles with no pictures posted in 5 years

This did not occur to me but is obvious now that you have said it. Interesting! I wonder how many such tweaks it would take it to be worthwhile for companies to add it as a build step

Canada upset China recently and China reacted by arresting some of our people for espionage and executing a suspected Canadian drug dealer. I imagine our next election will have some cyber attacks against the liberals but we’ll see

I wonder what one could do to help with this as a startup. Most of the green tech is expensive and/or can’t compete with oil and gas subsidies. Education will take too long at this point. Who would pitch in to help me build a giant Mr

In Canada, I had to sign a noncompete for my internship. Also couldn't have side projects. Made me pretty uncomfortable.

In the description, it says that there will be support for helping founders to find cofounders. What will that look like? It seems risky to partner with somebody you met in a forum

As an aside, I read recently that gps is a system where your device reads signals sent from space and does not reveal your location. Very neat.

I can’t wait for the mass hacks that come from this, with millions of people’s payment and other information getting snooped. People would stop using the internet for serious things again and our industry would die after enough of them

Many people criticized Facebook for its overpriced acquisitions over the years at the time, but what’s app and instagram have payed off huge for them. Cheaper acquisitions might have not planned out so well. The price can be worth it

It might be nice to work for a company like Apple one day but they are never mentioned in discussions about big tech salaries for some weird reason. Speaking of “bottom dollar,” how does Apple pay their engineers compared to other big tech?
