Programming is secondary to my primary duties and only a means for me to get other things done. I'm in constant tension between using Python and Rust. With Python I can get things up and going very quickly with little boilerplate, but

I've actually been hearing ads for Vrbo on a lot of the podcasts I listen to, so that comes to mind immediately for me. Searching for airbnb alternatives seems to suggest that there are a number of options out there.

Apparently our sensitivity to bitterness decreases as we age. It explains kids' aversion to cruciferous vegetables and coffee, among others, although I think most of us grow to appreciate those things by our twenties at least.

You can check out a number of strategies for reducing rust binary size here: https://github.com/johnthagen/min-sized-rust I don't think he mentions it, and I doubt it's relevant in your Hello World example, b

I wish there were equivalent books to Zero 2 Production for other ecosystems. I'm working on a project with Sveltekit project right now, and a major frustration for me is the proliferation of choices that come from working in the TS&#x

It's possible to specify no alias in C with the `restrict` keyword, but it isn't a widely used feature. With Rust, a whole bunch of bugs related to it were found and fixed in LLVM, so I think you're correct that it is the mos

I suspect there are two factors at play: first, there are a lot of drive-by rust critics who spout of stuff they've read that plainly haven't really tried using rust themselves; second, I suspect that people want others to underst

Would a normal async task block indefinitely like that though? Under non-contrived circumstances, I can see the scheduler becoming starved of threads where all the tasks are blocked, but presumably they will stop being blocked eventually, w

It strikes me that my cat probably views my intelligence pretty close to how you describe a Myna bird. The full sum of my mental energy is spent mimicking cat conversations while clearly not understanding it. I'm pretty good at doing m

Not necessarily. Sentience may well be a lot more simple than we understand, and as a species we haven't really been very good at recognizing it in others.

Do I mention going on a trip with my husband, or my spouse? That's what I mean about being open about my sexuality. Most people don't give that sort of thing a second thought.

In the FOSDEM presentation about Rust coreutils, they mentioned that security concerns were not a motivating factor for the rewrite - the C implementation has had only 17 CVEs since 2003. https://fosdem.org/2023/schedul

As a gay man, I'm not especially concerned about the hammer factory being unwelcoming, but I'd still rather work for the one that has a non-discrimination policy and where I see employees are open about their sexuality.

For rust, it is probably the try (?) operator. Fundamentally, it's just syntax sugar for a match statement with an early return in the Error or None cases, but it really improves the ergonomics of dealing with Result and Option types.
