In a sane language you could just ask the function where it is defined. user=> (meta #'leiningen.gnome/uuid) {:arglists ([project]), :ns #<Namespace leiningen.gnome>, :name uuid, :column 1, :line 10, :file "

One of my favorite features on my current laptop is the USB port that is connected directly to the battery, so it charges even when the laptop is not turned on.

Xmonad has a 'Tabbed' layout that does just that. I'm planning a tiling window manager for gnome 3 that takes the idea further, treating switching to a tab and opening a URI with a UI similar to Firefox smartbar.

The Locker Project ( http://lockerproject.org/ ) had a really promising approach to this - by centralising all of a users information from different services and offering a uniform api they effectively had a solution to the b

And yet if you work in an office the Health and Safety advice is to change position frequently and take regular breaks to standup, stretch and walk around. Sitting still for an hour is unpleasant and unhealthy.

I was not 'bashing' scala. I discussed the tradeoff between removing old cruft from the language and breaking old crufty code. I was careful throughout that entire comment to only discuss differences between the languages and comm

I've never even seen AOT compiled code. If it becomes common (maybe in proprietary projects?) then I would argee that its important to maintain binary compatability.

That's the kind of thing I was thinking about. The topology in lamina is described by data whereas in core.async it's described by code. I'll have to experiment more with both and see where the tradeoffs lie.

I would be interested in seeing a comparison to lamina. I haven't had a chance yet to think about it properly but my first impression is that core.async is strictly more expressive but it couldn't implement something like lamina&#

I didn't find that comparison very useful/accurate (having used clojure heavily for a year or two and scala full-time for the past month). The main differences I find are: When evaluating language tradeoffs the scala community val

I just use emacs-live ( https://github.com/overtone/emacs-live ) with a few tweaks ( https://github.com/jamii/emacs-live-packs ) so most of the work is done by someone else.

The core libraries are very large and there is no standard way of stripping them out. Clojurescript (partially) addresses this by passing the generated js through the google closure compiler. Perhaps a similar pass could be made in the jvm

I don't really see the appeal for mattresses. I have a very comfy foam/air mattress just about fits in my pocket and inflates faster than their demo. My tent, on the other hand, has an inflatable beam that takes a good minute to blow up...

Also, if you run a command that prints a lot to stdout (eg tracing) it will make emacs unhappy. That works much better in the lein repl terminal.

I've just moved to London, but I don't expect it to be very easy to find freelance work in ML. There are a limited number of companies who want to just buy an API. While I've done ok going that route so far, I think long-term the way to go
