Try visiting a popular tabloid news website and use the dev tools to see where it is loading content from. The number of horrendous tracking/ads/spam domains you'll see rushing by is unbelievable.

GP's solution is valid for the majority of software - at least the sort of software that us HN folk probably use. Unfortunately Google Chrome is a bad example here as it's not available in most repos (since it's closed source

It doesn't in this case, however you can determine that the chromium-team ppa is the official one in Ubuntu by following links from the Chromium website. The security of the package repository system falls down when people add apt sign

The scariest thing about this example is that the green "URL" below the ad says "www.google.com". Who thought it would be a good idea to allow advertisers to fake the URL like that? Unless it's an IDN homograph atta

chromium-browser is the one. Although on Ubuntu it's in the Universe repository, so you have to add the chromium-team ppa in order to get on-time updates. I will admit that Chrome/Chromium is one of the few things you can't e

Nowadays it's impossible to support the creators you enjoy online by whitelisting ads without exposing your device to multiple megabytes of untrusted, vulnerability-filled JS and iFrames with links off to malware sites. I think that th

Ah yes looking interesting... although it looks like more of an enterprise product (very expensive). I'm guessing this isn't included in the $7 per month developer plan?

KeyChest.net is great for managing your TLS certificates. It can use the certificate transparency (CT) logs to detect new certificates for your domain, so once set up you don't have to maintain it. Make sure to enable the weekly report
