I'll continue to put my software under the GPL until I'm convinced a different license would be better. But along with many others I certainly won't be contributing to an FSF project.

What about people that love free software, but are appalled that RMS was reappointed to the board. Where should we go?

Clunky interface aside (a given with emacs), what's wrong with package-list-packages and customize? It's essentially no different to installing and configuring packages in vscode. Why do you think use-package is necessary?

Personally, having my sensitive data under my own control (but internet facing) terrifies me. I know enough to know that there are risks, and yet wouldn't have a clue about how to make it secure.

The rating is increasing so the positive ratio is far higher than 50/50. There was an extremely vocal minority who left lots of negative reviews after the switch, and yes many of them may now be gone. But clearly new users are happy wi

That's the same argument Emacs developers use to justify alt (sorry, "meta") + w as copy. But it's a terrible argument. (In the Mac case at least using cmd+c is superior, and even works in Emacs!)

Like so often on HN when this comes up, you fail to even get the basic facts right. Such as which CEO was "kicked out". And it certainly wasn't for far less

The only one of those that's plausibly "adversarial" is telemetry (and I strongly disagree about that). The rest are just settings for which you don't want the defaults

Presumably you're fine with tracking adverts all over the web then? God forbid Mozilla try to make some money (to pay their developers, not for profit) whilst preserving your privacy.

Another good trick in emacs (if using git and magit) is `magit-find-file HEAD <file>`, then you can edit in one window and see the old version in the other

To follow the analogy, having the choice of Chrome and edge is like having the choice of Google android and Samsung Android. I don't want either, I want a real FOSS browser (and mobile OS)

Brendan Eich wasn't replaced by the current CEO though. Nor was he fired. Nor was it just because of [his] politics. Nor does that article say what you think it does. But whatever, think what you like.
