The bottom row for long-term projects is brilliant. Not so much for tracking things to do for them, but just to be a visual reminder of which side projects are actually important. I've got easily a dozen medium-sized ideas that I'm rather i

Dead on. With the momentum Apple has in the mobile front, they're starting to work seriously on tying together collaboration between those devices as in-house as they possibly can. FaceTime for Mac is a decent contender vs Skype for video c

Nice, but that's an annoying license. I'm tempted into porting his assignments to Ruby, but do to licensing I'll need to do them completely separately - I can't make a cohesive document out of it. Ah well. His prerogative I suppose. Just ma

I first experimented with Rails in the 0.7 days, and stuck with it until sometime in the early 2.x series. The general complaint you mention about "it got in my way and I had to abandon it" is basically at the top of my list. As Rails evolv

I agree that generic charts aren't that enticing. Try to find some interesting data sets, and plot those.

I've done this many times in both unit specs and Cucumber (what it looks like he's targetting), and I manage to get away with defining the Given step as stubbing Time.now. No need to get hairy with C at the low level.

Same here - I'm mostly on a mac so I use Textmate (and just gEdit on linux lately), but I can't recall the last time I used a snippet or anything. Decent editing functionality, syntax highlighting, the concept of opening a project directory

And, as much as Ubuntu generally gets out of my way on the desktop, I find that Mint is pretty good out-of-the-box for the media PC hooked up to my TV. After looking over those release notes, nothing really stands out as a must-upgrade feat

And what ethical standard do you see broken here? Ning provided a service, has realized that it's not financially feasable, and in the interest of (I presume) their owners/shareholders have decided to discontinue that service. They're allow

I'm disappointed with this change - it seems like picking up the new shiny tech for the sake of new shiny tech, at the expense of usability. My mac came with ruby, but not node. Also, a 1.5-second speedup is not terribly compelling for some

It looks right to my eye. Image editor says the vertical on the B, D, and right hand of M are all 3 px wide for LaTeX. Writer is 4, 3+2 anti-aliased, and 3+1 anti-aliased (both equating to approximately 4, but the M winds up rendered with a

Seriously, that's a step backwards. I get no overview, can't just browse, and with my browser window at 1024x768 your non-scrolling sidebar sometimes doesn't have a more info button at the bottom.

That's basically why I use fish after many years of zsh. zsh can probably do more, but I don't need to configure fish to get something useful that works the way I do. (The only config I've done on my current install are a bunch of aliases a

It's too bad they're PDFs, I'd love to get ePubs without needing to run them through Calibre and then hand-tweaking them. Or, scratch that. Calibre is sucking on these ones.

I don't know what you're missing, but I've got one Inbox folder with four accounts underneath it (3 imap, 1 pop) - the root Inbox contains all messages in the sub-inboxes.

Nothing stopping you from doing professional flying in a small aircraft. There are a few communities on the west coast of BC that are a pain to get to by land or sea, but a 4-6 seater seaplane convertable for cargo is something I'd enjoy do

In GMail, a simple slash will nest the tags if you're accessing it from an IMAP client. Also, if you start the tag it'll show up as a subfolder of your inbox. Filtering mailing lists to INBOX/ml/foo, INBOX/ml/bar and auto-archiving works qu
