I found it was cleaner to run it with -a (autocorrect) enabling one cop at a time between commits. Less giant patch storm of everything, and more coherent changesets.

If you're lucky, you might be able to pay down lump sums of your mortgage every year without penalty. I have a mortgage through Tangerine (formerly ING) and can pay down 25% of the original amount during any calendar year - assuming I

Most like, HN doesn't encourage random pop-culture references that don't actually add anything to the conversation.

He's pointing out that those stuck on a leap day are still stuck. If you count by day-of-year when doing the conversion, though, it's the people born new year's eve on a leap year that are impacted.

Because Rails has 10+ years of development on backend tooling that shouldn't be nixed or reinvented on account of a reorganization of files? Yes, it replaces view rendering completely with Cells, but routing, dispatch, request serializ

You can definitely compose operations, and have an operation that deals with multiple database models. The sample chapter from his book goes into a little bit of detail about it near the end, but TLDR you use a Twin object that has a refere

Sounds similar to me. Living in BC, doing Rails programming fulltime for a company in Toronto. Fly out for a week for quarterly meetings, but otherwise fully remote (and timezone shifted). Started initially as a fully-remote team, but as th

I seem to recall when the first book came out, that it was planned as a trilogy. After the second book, it was going to be a double trilogy. I don't think Jordan's overall plan reached his final 12-book estimate until book 8 or 9,

There's a sequel out now, at http://triton.ironhelmet.com that has the option of progressing time in steps once everyone confirms orders. So you can set it to 12h steps, get payday every 2 steps, or whatever you feel like.

Huh. I never actually did the math before, but: there's 32 symbols on my (US) keyboard. Upper+lower+number gives a baseline 62 characters. This gives us a password space for brute force attacks of 10 char alphanum: 62^10, or 8.4e

Support contracts. Mostly CYA, but the fact that there's some company out there that can be paid to be "responsible" for any issues and provide companies with a scapegoat is worth something.

Previous licensing was along the lines of 25% of net profit after $50k. Plus $100 for access to the dev kit. I call it a wash, but the lower numbers (5 vs 25, 19 vs 100) make for some good marketing. And full access to the source is new and

The one I've heard as being somewhat more accurate is "Thou shalt not murder." That is, pre-meditated and with intent. The current version could wind up damning you for self-defence.

Yes, that's exactly how you'd do it properly. I'm with you on just commenting out or deleting things as you experiment up a new system config, but once you're using that config in production it's not as safe.
