Perhaps you're right. I probably have a warped view of wages working in tech, but I just can't imagine working for over a decade just to max out around $50-$60k without starting my own business

I actually got sick of the "trades" trope recently and did a little research. Looking at local job listing, the entry level pay for most of the trades is very grim and you have to put years and years of work to get a decent wage.
