Excellent documentary. All that talk of hot lead made me wonder how many workers in there suffered some form of lead poisoning: https://www.historyofinformation.com/detail.php?id=4426

All the AI software running on these data-centre chips is almost exclusively running on Linux. I wish people would stop talking rubbish about NVIDIA's Linux support.

My guess is they will launch their own cloud platform powered by Apple Silicon. Click & deploy from within Xcode (I hate Xcode though.)

Yes, you can interface with PCIe devices using DriverKit, Apple's new user-space device driver platform. No need to run inside the kernel for these things any more. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/driverk

I believe macOS on Apple Silicon or Intel does not support DisplayPort MST (Multi-Stream Transport) which is required for daisy-chaining to work.

These GPUs use an MXM connector, not M.2. I've got an HP Z2 Mini unit which also uses MXM for its GPU, and is upgradable. Due to the cooling requirements of a GPU, MXM modules are often pretty thick though, so would probably make the w

Charlie Brooker eat your heart out. This is pretty terrifying. I agree, no way I'd allow anyone to fall asleep listening to this. :D It is also pretty cool though. Reminds me a bit of Blue Jam: https://www.youtube.com/w

You'll get a solid 4-5 years use out of such a device. I did out of my 2016 MacBook Pro. Even if you depreciate at $1000k/year, that's not too bad for a professional tool. It's not worth $0 after 4 years either.

It's pretty much impossible to install macOS on an external drive on M1 Macs. Really sucks, I agree. The best you can do is create a separate APFS partition (not volume) to install on, but it's still dicey. I guess Apple just expe

No, 8K is not really reality at the moment, but editing UltraHD is reality, and being able to easily edit or composite 2/3 streams of UltraHD with some complex effects in realtime is desirable. It's a bit mind-bending for those of

Apple have been hiring for Kubernetes and related roles. This may well be for their own devops for Apple services. However I'd be amazed if they don't release some kind of managed service for running Swift code in the cloud. Cavea
