I'm friends with the person who made emacs.sexy, and that no doubt was an influence. He loves emacs & wants to share it with the world (while vim.sexy clearly has a big element of parody to it). I'd forgotten about the awesome

My experience was it was a lot easier to learn than various linux distros, at least several years ago. It has great documentation in the form of the Handbook, and its directory structure & the ports system are rational & predictable
