As a user please for the love of god to not make me use a stupid mobile browser for everything. Native apps are so much better.

And in the EU alternative app stores are allowed on iphone as well. In both cases, it’s a near negligible amount of people that use them. Your exceptions prove the rule, if anything.

If you’re gonna cherry pick from that case, I’m not sure it’s going to go in your favour, as others have demonstrated.

Sure, and you can buy an android phone and use the play store instead and still get charged 30%. Or you could sideload, but let’s be real 99.9% of users aren’t gonna do that, and similarly most gamers are gonna buy everything on steam. The

When one person acts up it’s a person problem. When everyone acts up it’s a system problem.

It functionally is for most users with android phones. 99% of people aren’t side loading apps.

Ubuntu has done a decent job for normal installs but take it from me, if you want to dual boot it, it still doesn’t make it easy. It’s too easy to mess up your whole system if you don’t know what you’re doing, not to mention bootloaders are

I’m not miserable in the slightest, just endlessly bewildered that people in the Linux community continue to have attitudes like yours, despite that being literally the main reason people are put off of Linux. It’s self defeating.

And they fixed it. A bug like that is a seperate category of problem entirely.

There is no chance they break it. That’s just scaremongering. This also isn’t “constant hacking” it’s bypassing one warning during setup and that’s it.

There’s no functional gamble. It’s worked fine and it will continue to work fine. Everyone is seriously overreacting, they’re just scare tactic words.

I’ll bet you $100 my supposedly unsupported cpu is never kicked off of windows 11. There’s just no chance.

I’m sorry but are you being intentionally obtuse? You can’t think of a single downside to running two systems on your machine instead of one? If you lack imagination to that level I can’t help you dude

Getting the community to respect that people have those needs would go a long way to stopping people from feeling alienated, even if the solutions aren’t there yet.

I mean, the community could be less hostile to newcomers, and some of the bigger distorts could focus more on the user experience of inexperienced users. Those things can be done without any of those.

I take your criticism on board. Just because I haven’t experienced them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I only took issue with the way it was worded, like it was a universal experience rather than just one that happens to some people.

Google play store and steam are the same. This is regulatory. Hating a company for maximising profits is really something you should aim at legislation to control unchecked capitalism.

Well said. Glad to see this at the top. Google also takes 30%. And I think steam too. This is 100% a regulatory issue.

30% is also the cut google takes on the google play store. This is not an apple only issue. This is a regulatory one.

Not the study specifically, the rather huge leaps of logic and faith required to get from the study’s findings to the speculations mentioned in your comment.

There’s a lot of odd things said in this article. Like “no more file explorer hanging”, “no more waiting for the start menu to open” - is this something that actually happens to people? Perhaps on very old hardware I could see it, but it’s

There it is, the classic “just change what you enjoy then!!”. Linux will take off when the community stops trying to force new users to conform to the Linux way of life and instead respect that other people have other needs and wants that

You can bypass the warning really easily, I googled it the moment I saw it and it was very easy. A keyboard shortcut to open the command window during the install and one cheeky command. I agree though that it’s silly they don’t offer it of
