Thanks for the subtitles. They would be easier to follow if overlaid directly on the video. I understand the transcript is supposed to be clickable/seekable, so maybe have traditional overlays as a full-screen option.

They already throttle, to some extent. Bandwidth and speed caps, which may or may not apply to a Verizon-owned Netflix. Then things like preferential QoS come into the picture. Also see the peripheral dispute between Level3 and Comcast, due

Ignoring the huge technical differences, it boils down to net neutrality. Other services could be throttled in favor of Verizon's, much as the carriers were screeching over VoIP apps few years ago.

IMO, that would be questionable in the long term. From what I understand, Kansas City is a network testbed, a novelty in Google's business portfolio. There is no reason to invest in a multi-city network unless it directly supplements G's co

And? As I said -- when you pay for cable TV, you're paying for the TV feed. Netflix is VOD carried over IP. The power company doesn't try to sell you energy-guzzling AC units.

Absolutely not. Data carriers should not be able to supply any content over its pipes. There is already precedent restricting vertical integration -- see the United States v. Paramount Pictures ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v

You can reconstruct almost any system flow with good logging. While that's not always ideal (especially if you need to query the data), the more structured your data gets, the less it is a simple log. When you increase the specificity of yo

I tried Puppet because using a real deploy tool seemed like the Right Thing To Do. When I was on my 10th puppet script, I gave up. My existing mishmash of shell scripts already does the same thing in a fraction of the effort, sans cumbersom

If you're mobile, carrying around a keyboard negates the value of the iPad. If you're stationary, a real computer gives you far more flexibility. Then you have the issue of unbearably long compiles, as the article stated. The iPad is not th

I just interpreted the article an imprecise way of saying " they're both functional, but one is statically typed," by assuming Lisp as the canonical example of FP (rightly or not). Not the most apt comparison, to be sure.
