Then surely all the effort being put into make browsers not browsers would be better directed towards solving those goals, without bastardising the web? I always thought that the SPA crowd would settle on a custom content-type to handle web

"create an immersive application that feels like you're no longer in a browser at all" That seems like a very odd goal.

Personally, I've yet to see a real solid case for SPAs. I know that may be confused for negativity towards the SPA technology, but I always found it to be a technology looking for a problem. Again, in my experience, SPAs break the web

"if you care about interactivity, responsiveness, and general user experience" A simple web page (no-js) in a browser covers these three things to a highly acceptable standard. It's when you start to add the other junk that t

I've never used any of Hashicorps stuff (thought consul did arrive on my radar theother day..). Any recommendations? We use the Atlassian stack here (stash, bamboo, etc) and deploy to AWS (regular AMIs rather than any of that fancy doc

Yup[ thats exactly how I'm using it: a simple Golang program that just wraps the QML program and the websockets, JSON-RPC features to make calls and receive events from a Golang backend process. SOOOO much nicer than HTML/JS/

Thanks for the solid example. I especially like the use of the NVIM_LISTEN_ADDRESS environment variable for service discovery of the backend!

Yeah it kinda reminds me of the "plumbing and porcelain" approach of some programs like git. It also is nice that a lot of modern init process can fire up the back ends on demand and kill them after a while.

Recently I've been exploring the idea that small programs should consist of two parts; a "backend" that you can communicate with via a strict message protocol like protobuf. It can handle multiple requests because it is a min

Iterative cycles take advantage of the regularity of change. APIs shouldn't change once public, hence the emphasis on Big Upfront Design. However, change still needs to happen so versioning comes into play. Personally, when it comes to

As REST is an architectural style I always preferred the phrase mock-REST, as in mock-tudor which is a physical world architectural style with similar meaning i.e. the house wasn't built with adherence to the tudor methods of architect

"Scaling is a nice problem to have" Don't write code to handle 1 million users if you've only got 100. Usually just getting something up and running is enough of a problem for most.
