But of a shot in the dark here but anyone know of good sci fi books from the perspective of someone colonizing another planet after their original plant died and humanity not having sufficient resources to maintain earth’s development rate?

Pretty telling for the “look SQL is so easy!” example to have a bug.. :) As mentioned in a sibling comment, Kusto Query Language^1 is potentially more readable here: > SELECT player_name, COUNT(*) as num_hits FROM baseball_players WHERE

Not the parent, but I quite like the Kusto query language. It’s Microsoft specific, but the overall concept is nice and could be implemented more broadly. The operations are described as a pipeline, which to me is much more readable (and wr

Hm. So Elastic releases a neutered version of their product that leads to countless PII leaks, AWS provides a FOSS plug-in to fix that, then Elastic turns around and says AWS is leaching off their product and not contributing back to the co

Seems like you know a thing or two about this — are all the reports I see about companies leaking tons and tons of data through improperly configured elastic search instances something using the aws’s offering would fix (or even ES’s hosted

Helps to not cheap out on the eggs you buy. I pay ~$6/dozen (maybe less), but I also get a nice video feed of the chickens on their pasture clucking around and having a grand old time.

Why not just use a web app? I don’t have the Twitter app installed because the web app does everything I need.

It’s a bit undiscoverable, but if you click the edit title button it will actually allow you to edit the base branch as well. Sibiling comment said this might be opt-out-able, but at least in ms/vscode no one seems to opt-out.

Any state actors who like to snoop would be incentivized to cripple the snooping-free network for the low low price of a few high capacity links. (Or better yet very many low capacity links)

Interesting that the authors consider the culprit to be Big Plant. This would seem to go against the traditional capitalist playbook, are there other examples of an industry banding together to say “X raw material would make producing goods

Fun article but I can’t seem to match their excitement for the cut... to me it’s just spaghetti that’s much harder to slurp on account of it being a straw.

More interesting is that the FDA apparently never spot checks these sorts of things, so the claim is Big Pasta has some sort of axe to grind against De Cecco.

Not sure what there is to explain. I regularly walk my dog along a ~1 mile stretch of secluded but public beach, and a handful of times groups of foreigners have had their drones follow me obnoxiously closely for prolonged periods, I assume

I’d pay good money for a shotgun-like device that had power enough to take down the drones foreigners like to fly meters from my face videotaping me as I walk down the beach, but not powerful enough to be dangerous to use in such contexts.
