Why not allow function literals that define multiple arity implementations? Something like... def sum(list) do plus = { fn -> 0 end ; fn x, y -> x + y end } Enum.reduce(list, plus(), fn x, y ->

Eh, carcinization is a better ontological fit. Many separate things evolving into the same structure, versus the process of losing electrons and/or structurally degrading.

The "career" in question could be autorouter developing. That said, I'd suspect it's similar to CS: autoprogrammers are "known" to not work. If you can understand and articulate the business logic in a concis

Hah, I just went down a whole rabbit hole on super-logarithms and tetration wondering why you found it so critical as to warrant standard-library inclusion.

Nah, it's just that 99% of people aren't so chronically online as to need a web service to find out how to freely drink water in a place with free water drinking infrastructure.

Peer review isn't the same thing as validity either. Both are proxies, sales are simply a much better proxy. Especially long term sales from an established company. Look at it like this: a Peer Reviewed (tm) article comes out saying &q

This is a perfect example. In the real world, some placebos work. You take them, believe that they will work, and they do. Fantastic! Your problem has been solved, you share your story with friend(s), the cure spreads based on how well it w

Engineering, not scientific. High Sales = A large number of people can attest to the engineered good or service being of high enough quality that they will exchange hard earned money for the ability to use it. Peer Review = Some folks who d

Industry doesn't need peer review. The proof of the pudding is in the sales.

It's the general public that equates "peer reviewed" with "definitely correct, does not need to be questioned".

I didn't get AppleCare. Looks like it'd be $70/yr, so I'd be $210 down (plus $100 for screen repairs). The battery was $130 [1], and the screen was $170 [2]. Comes out to a bit cheaper to DIY, and I don't have to gi

The speakers didn't need to be replaced, that was a misdiagnosis on my part. But the process was easy (note for the readers: take a dry toothbrush to your speaker grilles if they ever start to sound off). As for the battery, yeah ideal

I'm happy as a clam on my 16gb M1 air. One hidden nice feature is how cheap and easy DIY repairs are. To date I've replaced my battery, monitor, and speakers (my lifestyle involves very rough handling of the machine), and everyt

I've seen a handful in CA. Usually they're visible from a large distance, given the flashing lights and traffic backup. Sometimes they'll even have signs up a few blocks in advance warning about the upcoming stop.

FWIW in my experimentations with prompt-engineering and Q/A seeding, asking GPT to self-reflect on conversation/system history more often than not results in a partial-to-complete hallucination. If this is stable across a variety

What bugs me the most is Flex centering absolutely sucks at handling overflow. Have a flex box with content that is supposed to be centered? Great, looks perfect for the first few items. But then try it on a smaller window or with more item

Yeah last played is a good one. I actually have a smart list of all the top played songs that were last played over a year or two a go, which I look through to find some "fell through the cracks" things I enjoyed at one point. W
