I could imagine at most once being good for something like a ping or a heartbeat. Or even a "this is the current version of some piece of data". And if your consumers are prone to failing to ack and you don't want to gum up t

You can still stack allocate things in Go. And use closures when you need nested scopes. This lets you take garbage off the heap, and avoid GC all together if you want to. I believe Go does escape analysis so you can still shuffle around po

Shoot me an email and let's see what we can do. Also, I'll definitely have to check out Reviewable!

@piotrkaminski Comment nesting seemed to run out. So replying to myself. Our team is currently using Rietveld. But I've used Gerrit in the past, as well as internal tools of the same flavor back when I was at Google. I don't parti

I probably sounded overly dismissive of github. Which probably isn't fair. But I'll leave my post un-edited for posterity. I use github every day for work. There are lots of things it gets right. But if you want to work on a proje

A lot of people commenting here probably haven't had the experience of working with mature pre-submit code review tools. It's funny how much of an opinion people seem to have about things they don't know about. I'm shock

Seconded. His work is fantastic. He has a few collections of short stories (Luminosity and Axiomatic) that give a good breadth of exposure to the themes he explores in his books.

I believe when you add whois guard to NameCheap, it actually comes out a little more than Google Domains, which I think offers free private registration.

Attach a highspeed microSD card reader (or build one in) and this would make a very compelling low power, personal media file server. Although needing to keep the television on to power it might get annoying.

This is almost certainly using the same protocol. The DevTools team did the work a while back to pull everything they needed out of process and establish the devtools protocol to enable remote debugging. What the author has done is to take

There are a lot of flawed zero-sum arguments going on in this thread. Do the people that are so vocally against the H1B program really believe that the US tech industry would be where it is without H1B workers? Simply put, giving US compani

Sharing code across the client and server is also important. Not just code sharing amongst clients. The JVM is going to be the preferred server target at Google over C# and .NET by a wide wide margin. Which probably rules out Xamarin. Add t

Going into your firefox flags and disabling content security policy does not count as "working in Firefox". Also the linked post reports performance problems. Never assume malice when there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. T

I think the term "blocking" is a bit misleading. It implies they have it running properly in FireFox and are going out of their way to make it only run in Chrome. It seems more likely they had an aggressive plan to ship inbox acro

This logic is flawed. When does a tourist cross from being profitable to being a drain? The tax argument only holds water if your income is earned in the country you are living in. That money came from a system that is supported by govern

The end game I think for sandstorm is the equivalent of a rich AppStore/Marketplace for web apps and web services. Instead of installing an App on your phone. You would install some service on a personal server. Without needing to be a

Hadn't heard about container-optimized VMs. They seem to have very overlapping goals with CoreOS. Having choice is generally a good thing, but it makes the water a little murky given how similar the goals seem :). Have you had a chance

There is actually a decent open source, third party Go plugin for Intellij that works pretty well. Our team has been using it successfully on a fairly large project. It's slightly annoying to setup, but absolutely worth it.

Thank you for pointing out how ridiculous it sounds for people in a field that is as highly paying as ours is, to be complaining about wage suppression. I think a lot of people have gotten pretty out of touch with reality. Anyways... even i

Are the alternatives any better? If you run a service yourself, you will have downtime, only you won't have Google's amazing SREs and wealth of experience to draw upon to resolve your outage. You will have to fix it yourself. If y
