Even during the lockdowns there were times of no checkpoints on the borders again. It was such a relief to finally see them gone. I hope they aren't back again. But yes that is amazing value and travel by train is just nicer.

That's incredible. What sort of levels do you have to put up with? Is there any kind of monitor you can install to detect a spike?

I wonder how many of the challenges here apply to things like Solein https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_Foods

Decent enough summary from John Oliver here (if you can put up with his daft, sitcom-like humour) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3kEpZWGgJks

I guess those first merchants included Academia and... I think one out Hietzing if I remember correctly. Still one of the best sites on the internet. Kudos!

Absolutely. One strategy I employed with a very old code base with a gajillion warnings was to output them to a file and compare against a reference file at the end of the build. If the output changed we would fix those and maybe any that k

As lots of us know from experience, it's very ver hard to get an in-production project into a warning free state with warnings at maximum and warnings as errors. I'm currently working on a new project this year and it has been su

I'm sorry but you literally described breaking into someone's computer in order to snoop on them. You expressed disappointment that there were no photographs and you closed with "fun times". I don't have to do anyth

As an anecdote, I visited three Tibetan cities in 2007, including Lhasa and in all three it felt like there was a Tibetan quarter in a predominantly Han city. In the countryside I'm sure it's not like this but it was quite sad. Yo

And they use analogue video signals to avoid encoding/decoding latency

While I agree abuse occurs I think this view is overly strict in the other direction. The phrase "the science is settled" is perfectly valid to use in many contexts and is useful shorthand for something like "if you want to d

That's really a pity. In England there is a terrible lack of knowledge of the other parts of the Union. It's because of decisions like the not quite full on Scots but truly brilliant Limmy's Show only being shown on BBC Scotl

I really wonder why I'm finding very few uses of constexpr in my code. I feel like I'm missing out on something important but just can't find places where it works for me.

I'm not sure about that. I see cars like the Cadillac Escalade here in Austria. Not many of them mind you and almost always only outside hotels like the Intercontinental. I assume to ferry wealthy tourists around in what they are accus

Did there used to be a lower tax rate on vehicles over a certain weight because then they were classified as "working" vehicles or something like that?

I think it was Jennifer Ouellette who once remarked that "cars increasingly look like they want to murder me", or something along those lines. I think of that every time I see one of these huge things looming at me.

Nah it's absolutely daft and just guild protectionism for things like paracetamol. Fake or bad goods are not an issue in developed countries without these extreme rules. But that's not my point. My point is that such extreme rules

One "hack" to get around that is to change your health app into a "beauty" or "cosmetic" or "wellness" app. It's a very different set of regulations.

Not to mention almost all pharmacies selling homeopathic rubbish. I find this particularly irritating given the ridiculously regulations and control around things like buying paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Indeed. I have a lot of sympathy for the viewpoint that c++ is a very very complicated language in it's entirety, but not much sympathy for the idea that features are added willy-nilly. It's a product of its time, massive success,
