For me, it is to avoid context switch. I'll have all the files I need open in different tabs and switch between them. If I need to cross reference something, I'll open it in a new pane. Personally, I like being able to see the fil

I'm glad the cops in Toronto are paid extremely well. A Constable can earn $90k. There's less likelihood of a cop going to such extents if they don't need to. Of course that's not the only reason, but is likely part of t

Your prospective colleagues and bosses would have been impressed by it. However, to impress the recruiter is a different ball game. Especially the inexperienced recruiters, who don't always understand the challenges of one technology v

I'm not forced, I quite like working on Vim. However I develop on a multi-app setup, 3 backend services and 4 npm based frontend apps with watchers and works running in background. RubyMine/Webstorm has a hard time keeping up and

This is a great idea! I love the fact that I can have both contexts in the same window. What would also be pretty cool is being able to move all windows in one context into a new window, if I want to separate things in a new OS workspace.

If you are a power multi-tasker (20+ browser tabs at any given time) running IntelliJ with a couple of electron apps (Slack, Spotify), it will slow down your system with constant disk-thrashing on a 8 GB machine even with an SSD. I use a Ma

I used to be in your camp before I discovered git add -p. Allows you to interactively pick which hunks to stage. SourceTree essentially replicated the same workflow in a nice GUI.

I read this article with a pinch of salt. The author is biased towards Japanese, French and Italian cuisines. He clearly notes the lack of South Asian and Spanish cuisine restaurants (what about Mexican? Filipino?) in Tokyo. How can a city

I think the key here is motivation. When cost cutting is the motivation, managers are told to remove X number of people from the department, even if they all perform their jobs well. This is more common than you think.
