When I read the parent comment, I thought “Am I on Reddit?”. HN used to bury Reddit-like comments a while back, but it seems the Reddit influence is becoming more and more accepted on HN these days, as I’m starting to see them more at the t

Nice! Not sure I follow how it’s “cruel” though. Making it fair (by removing guessing) removes the only cruel thing about OG Minesweeper. Seems like this is 100% winnable all the time.

I'm thinking mine was a hardware update, where the case had to be opened. I believe the company we bought it from did the upgrade.

No PC Jr. :( I loved my PC Jr. -- my first computer. Spent way too many hours on it, and the reason I do what I do today. Had a number of books on BASIC, and even upgraded the RAM from 128k to 256k (I may have even gotten it up to 512k)!

I believe this should be higher. I’ve yet to find a mouse where you can consistently click the wheel without moving it a notch. It’s so bad on my current mouse that when I have a game or something that requires a click, the wheel will regis

Genuinely curious why this is front page on HN? It’s horribly tragic, but it’s not really relevant. Maybe because it involved a Tesla, but it seems that’s only coincidental — the collision had nothing to do with it being a Tesla. Or was the

Yeah, same here. I actually only follow a handful of active feeds, so it won’t be the end of the world either way. But one thing I’ll miss are the HN feeds, since I otherwise stay off HN. I may have to find an alternative for that, at least

Why isn’t this on the front page? I’ve been wondering what was going on, and had to actually search HN to find it. 11 upvotes in 18 minutes is definitely front page worthy. Is HN actively nerfing Twitter posts?

Shows how much I know about woodworking. Until I read your comment, I hadn’t realized the parent comment was satire. Instead, I was amazed at some new technique I hadn’t heard of before of heating wood that would make woodworking easier.

The video doesn’t seem to load on iPhone (Safari). It loads a tiny thumbnail, then just spins forever. Edit: it may be because I’m opening it from the mobile link (which sends the video to Safari), but I tried pulling up the repo directly i

There’s a big difference in Twitter and HN. On Twitter, the filtering is done by you (mostly: you can’t choose what content is posted by those you follow, or the comments others post). On HN, the filtering is done by others (mostly: you can

I know a lot of people don’t like Twitter, but I actually enjoy it. I think there are a couple reasons for this: 1. I use Tweetbot instead of the native client. A lot of people gripe about the native client and ads, and using a third party

I don’t care if it is a trope, I miss key changes. Maybe because I grew up in the 80s and early 90s where it was common. But I have a fondness for songs that had them. Some songs did them in a way that was predictable, just following the fo

A bit off topic, but I’ve always thought that relative to consoles that succeeded it, the Atari 2600 hasn’t aged well. The games just aren’t fun to play these days. Compared to the NES, there’s something about the advancements made in tech
